You MUST attend an NSO which will introduce you to the Career Pathways at Broward College. You will also complete a career assessment to assist with identifying the career choice that is best for you, receive academic advisement and register for classes.

This mandatory session will serve as the official welcome to the Seahawk Nation of Broward College. You will be introduced to the tools and resources to support your academic success, as well as learn about classroom expectations from both students and faculty. You will also learn about ways to get involved with student clubs/organizations and how to find academic support and resources.

Strategies for Success (SLS1001) and College Success Skills (SLS1501) are highly recommended courses designed to provide First Time in College students with tools and resources that contribute to your academic success. SLS courses address how to become a successful college student and include topics such as:

  • time management
  • note-taking techniques
  • study strategies
  • test-taking strategies

You will be assigned to an academic advisor who will help guide you from your first day through your graduation. You are required to attend a mandatory academic advising appointment following the NSO. At this appointment, your academic advisor will assist you in selecting the career choice that is best for you and appropriate courses that lead to your career path.
