Seahawk Summer Academy is designed for recent high school graduates and first-time college students who are ready to get a head start at Broward College. Interested students must complete the admission process to register for classes.

All Seahawk Summer Academy courses are offered during Session 3 of the Summer term, running from June 24 to August 4. Students attend classes on campus each week, with some courses also utilizing Broward College’s online platform (D2L). The program is fully funded for eligible students who meet all registration and citizenship requirements by the program deadlines —start your college education at no cost!

Interested in Registering but Still Have Questions

Follow the steps below to register for your Summer Academy classes:

  1. Complete the Broward College admission application to become a Broward College Student with a valid BC Student ID
  2. Receive a letter or notification from Broward College that you are successfully admitted and are a current Broward College Student
  3. Connect with an advisor or a student success coach for the next steps
  4. You will receive a notice to attend New Student Orientation (NSO). This is where you will register for the classes. An NSO staff will help you through the registration process.                                     
  5. You may receive a notification to attend a Jumpstart session. If you do, a Broward College recruiter/staff will help you through the admissions process during and after your Jumpstart session. Your coach or advisor will guide you through all the steps until you are able to register for classes.

 

Students are encouraged to complete a Free Application For Student Aid (FAFSA). The FAFSA you should fill out is for the 2025-2026 year, and our school code is 001500.

IMPORTANT: Students who successfully meet all the eligibility requirements for the Seahawk Summer Academy scholarships and remain enrolled in the Summer Academy classes the entire summer will be awarded on an ongoing basis until the first day of classes (Summer, Session 3).

Wait! Did you receive notification of being a Broward College Student yet?

You may not be able to register for the Seahawk Summer Academy classes if your admission process is incomplete or if you have a registration hold. Contact your academic advisor or success coach as soon as possible.

If you attended a Jumpstart recruiting event and were scheduled to attend a New Student Orientation. Please check your class schedule and make sure you attend your session. This is the best option you have to receive one-on-one assistance with this process.

Students must complete all admission requirements and be successfully admitted at Broward College (or be a current eligible Broward College student with a valid BC Student ID Number).

A registration hold may stop you from registering for your classes. Contact your Broward College Academic Advisor or Success Coach as soon as possible.

REGISTER FOR CLASSES

Congratulations Seahawk. By now, you should have received notification on becoming a Broward College Seahawk with a valid Broward College student ID.

To join the Seahawk Summer Academy, use your BC Student ID and login information to register into one of the cohorts listed on our website. View a list of Seahawk Summer Academy courses.

Please note: these classes are set up as paired co-requisites. Students must be registered and remain enrolled in their selected 2-class-cohort as listed on our program website to meet the eligibility criteria for the summer academy scholarship.

Students are responsible to ensure that:

  1. All required admissions documents are submitted to Broward College in a timely manner at least 3 weeks before classes start
  2. Florida Residency documentation is processed and applied to student accounts by the first day of class - if applicable. (Required for the Seahawk summer academy scholarship eligibility)
  3. Current FAFSA application is fully processed and all red flags cleared before the first day of classes
  4. Meet with your Broward College academic advisor or success coach to ensure there are no holds on your student account that may prevent you from registering for your classes
  5. Follow up with your High School to ensure the college receives and processes your official high school transcripts by June 22*
  6. Attend both Summer Academy classes all Summer. If you withdraw or drop from 1 of the 2 courses, you will lose your Summer Academy scholarship. You will be responsible to pay for the remaining course/credits.

    IMPORTANT NOTE:
    If you no longer wish to remain enrolled in the Summer Academy courses, you must drop the paired courses before the college 100% refund deadline (July 2nd)  to avoid financial responsibility.

ATTEND A SUMMER ACADEMY INFORMATION SESSION

The Seahawk Summer Academy information sessions are designed specifically for the Academy students. These sessions are different from the New Student Orientations or NSOs.
At the Summer Academy Information Session, you can:

  • Obtain program details on eligibility requirements, including how to connect with your academic advisor to get help with getting ready for classes
  • Verify scholarship eligibility and/or confirm your four-credit Seahawk summer academy scholarship eligibility and/or award

GET CONNECTED EARLY

Start building your college experience before the fall semester begins. Meet other incoming students, learn how to navigate campus, and gain confidence heading into your first term. Getting started early helps you stay on track and feel prepared from day one.

COURSES WITH CONNECTION

Students enroll in two linked courses during the Summer term and earn four college credits together as a group, building connections both in and out of the classroom through shared academic and campus experiences.

ENGAGING CAMPUS EXPERIENCE

After class, continue your experience with free on-campus events featuring food, activities, and opportunities to connect with other students in a fun and welcoming environment.

LEADERSHIP & INVOLVEMENT OPPORTUNITIES

Explore how to get involved on campus and build skills that support your personal and professional growth. Students are introduced to opportunities such as Student Government, Campus Activities Board (CAB), Peer Mentoring, and on-campus employment, helping you discover ways to stay engaged and gain valuable experience throughout your time at Broward College.

Peer Mentoring

As a Seahawk Summer Academy participant, you’ll have access to trained Peer Leaders, current students who are here to help you navigate college, answer questions, and share their experiences. Peer mentoring is part of Broward College’s broader leadership opportunities, giving you support while also showing you ways to grow into leadership roles yourself.

 

Student Government

Get introduced to Student Government, where students have the opportunity to represent their peers, share their voice, and take on leadership roles within the College. Student Government provides a platform to get involved in campus decision-making while building confidence and leadership skills.


Campus Activities Board (CAB)

Learn about the Campus Activities Board (CAB), where students help plan and host events across campus. CAB offers a hands-on way to get involved, meet other students, and gain experience in event planning, teamwork, and leadership.

To be admitted into the Seahawk Summer Academy, students must:

  1. Complete all Broward College Admission Requirements and submit all required documents.
  2. Be a Current Broward College Student with a valid BC Student ID.
  3. Register for the Summer Academy paired classes. View the course schedule per campus. No additional program application is required.
  4. Complete a free FAFSA application for the current academic year.
  5. Be able to meet Citizenship and Florida Residency requirements.

Seahawk Summer Academy scholarship recipients must remain enrolled in the paired classes listed on this program site for the entire Summer Session 3.

** Attending a Seahawk Summer Academy information session is highly recommended. **

Eligible Summer Academy students will receive a scholarship to cover 100% of the tuition of the Seahawk Summer Academy two courses. 


Scholarship Awards begin June 1 and until the first day of class to students who meet all the scholarship eligibility criteria listed below:

  • Attend an New Student Orientation (NSO). 
  • Be able to meet Citizenship and Florida Residency Requirements before the first day of class
  • Be registered by the first day of Summer- Session 3 into one of the Seahawk Summer Academy 4 credit cohorts listed on the program site
  • Complete the Broward College admission processes successfully by the first day of classes
  • Meet Florida Residency requirements for tuition purposes by the first day of class
  • Submit all required documents to complete Florida Residency and official high school transcripts by the first day of classes
  • Ensure the college receives and processes the Official High School Transcripts by June 22* to retain the scholarship
  • Remain enrolled in the Summer Academy courses (cohort) for the entire Summer Term
  • Submit a Free Application for the 2025-2026 Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online. (FAFSA must be on File only)
IMPORTANT:
  1. The scholarship does not cover classroom materials/supplies or the College Admission Fees
  2. Students are responsible to pay for any additional fees by their payment deadlines to avoid being dropped from their courses
  3. Scholarships will be awarded starting June 1 until the first day of class if students meet eligibility requirements.
  4. Students who enroll after the first day of class may not receive the scholarship and must contact the program staff at summeracademy@broward.edu for consideration on a case-by-case basis based on the available funds
  5. Students who do not submit official High School Transcripts by July 2* may lose the scholarship. In that case, it may be the responsibility of the student to pay for these courses.

July 2 The last day to drop your classes with a 100% scholarship refund (meaning, the student will have no obligations to the college).
