ROTC (Reserve Officers Training Corps) is a 4 year program that helps students learn leadership skills while in college. Upon successful completion of an ROTC program and upon graduating from a four year college or university with a Bachelors degree, a student may be commissioned as an officer in the United States Military. While attending college or university ROTC participants may receive scholarships and other monetary benefits. Broward College offers courses that satisfy the first two years of the four year Army ROTC program or the Air Force ROTC program. A student does not incur any military obligation during the first two years of the ROTC program. ARMY ROTC -- The Army ROTC program is offered in conjunction with Florida International University. Classes are taught at the FIU campus in Miami, at the Miami-Dade College North campus in the northern part of Dade County and at the FAU campus in Boca Raton. Students from many local colleges and universities attend. Classes are offered in the Fall and Winter semesters. Typically, you would attend an Army ROTC class once a week. You are also required to attend a “Leadership Lab” that may or may not be on the same day of your class. Physical training may also be required. The Army ROTC courses available through BC / FIU are: MSL 1001 Foundations of Officership (2 cr) MSL 1002 Basic Leadership (2 cr) MSL 2101 Individual Leadership Studies (2 cr) MSL 2102 Leadership and Teamwork (2 cr) AIR FORCE ROTC -- The Air Force ROTC program is offered in conjunction with the University of Miami. Classes are taught at the UM campus in Coral Gables. Students from many local colleges and universities attend. Classes are offered in the Fall and Winter semesters. Typically, students attend an Air Force ROTC class once a week. In addition, a “Leadership Lab” and physical training may also be required.
