1. Please review the information on each page of the application, and fill out the application completely. Complete the application, sign, date, and include the following requirements.

2. Attach an official certified copy of a high school diploma or its equivalent, a GED or, for the British education system, four academic passes on the GCE, CXC, BGCSE, WAEC, WASC, OR HKCE exams in general proficiency. Secondary school diplomas do not have to be translated to English with the exception of Hebrew, Arabic, or Asian. All applicants must have the equivalent of a United States high school diploma and college preparatory program.

3. Official transcripts are required from all universities attended. If a student has attended a university outside the U.S., please attach an official certified copy of the original documents in the language of your country, along with an official translation from a certified translation company. University transcripts must have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or its equivalent. Students applying for the English Language Program are not required to submit university transcripts.

Please note: All copies of education records from outside the U.S. must be certified by either the U.S. Consulate or the Ministry of Education in your native country. We will accept original documents, take copies, and return originals to students at their request. After one term, we cannot guarantee the return of original documents.

4. You are required to provide evidence of financial support. Sponsors are required to complete the Confidential Financial Statement on the application (page 3). In addition, the sponsor must provide a bank statement or letter showing a minimum balance of $22,500. Broward College does not provide or recommend housing.

5. If applying for a degree program, and English is your second language, attach proof of English proficiency. Broward College requires the TOEFL with a minimum score of 550 on the paper-based test, 220 on the computer- based test, or 79 on the internet- based test. We will also accept the IELTS test with a minimum score of 5.5. If you are in the U.S., you may take the Broward College English Placement Test (LOEP), which includes a writing sample, in place of the TOEFL or IELTS. Placement testing will be administered only after the application has been submitted and the application fee has been paid. If applying for the English Language Program, the TOEFL or IELTS is not required.

Please note: All international students, regardless of their TOEFL or IELTS scores, will be required to take the LOEP once admitted to the college. In addition, students who are degree seeking, who do not place into college level English on their LOEP test, will be required to take English as a Second Language (ESL) courses which will not apply towards a degree. All ESL classes must be completed before starting a degree program.

6. Attach a $75 U.S. non-refundable check or money order for payment of the application fee.

7. If you are currently in the U.S., please attach a copy of your I-94 card.

8. If you are transferring from a school within the United States, please attach a copy of your current I-20.

Once admitted to Broward College, students will be required to satisfy visa and health insurance requirements prior to advisement and registration for classes. An insurance compliance form and visa information will be provided to you with your acceptance packet.

Once you receive the acceptance packet you need to:

• If you are currently in the United States and do not receive an I-20 in your acceptance packet:

Make an appointment to see one of the International Admissions Coordinators at the Broward District Office regarding your student visa. Please make sure to bring your passport and I-94 with you to the appointment.

• If you are outside the United States:
  
  
  1. Make an appointment with the American Consulate in your country to apply for the Student Visa. For additional information visit Visa Requirements.

  2. Pay the SEVIS fee before you go for your interview/appointment with the American consulate.

  3. On the day of your student visa appointment, please bring the I-20 form together with your passport, SEVIS fee receipt, and evidence of financial support to the United States Consulate. For hints and more information, see Visa Requirements.

  4. The health insurance form included in your acceptance packet should be completed by the insurance company you choose. Broward College requires international students to have health insurance coverage while enrolled at the college. We recommend that you wait to purchase the health insurance until your student visa is approved. You will need to show proof of health insurance in order to register for classes. Please keep in mind that Broward College does not direct the operations of any insurance company that you may choose and cannot be held responsible for problems that may occur.

  5. Remember you cannot enter the U.S. more than 30 days before the first day of classes.

  6. Please be advised acceptance to Broward College does not guarantee you will be granted a student visa by the U.S. Consulate in your country; neither does it guarantee you will be granted a change of status by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
     

 Once in the U.S.:

1. 1. 1. Contact the Registration Office on the campus where you plan to attend to verify your student visa and health insurance. You have to provide the following documents: I-20 form, Passport & I-94, and proof of health insurance.

      2. Visit the Advisement Office, where you will see the International Student Advisor for required placement testing and academic advising. The International Student Advisor will discuss your academic program and will assist you with class selection and registration.

      3. Once classes have begun, you will be required to attend a mandatory orientation, which will inform you of the current and new immigration regulations. You will be notified by mail regarding the dates and times of the orientation.

Please Note: 

Commercial evaluation: If you have attended a university outside the U.S., you must provide a commercial evaluation of your academic records for all post-secondary education completed within 30 days of admission. The evaluation must consist of a course by course evaluation and upper division course identification. Instructions and information that will enable you to meet this requirement will be provided with your acceptance letter. The commercial evaluation companies approved by Broward College are Josef Silny and Associates, Inc, and World Education Services.
