Innovation Hub at Broward College:  A mixed-use business incubator, focusing on housing a dynamic community of entrepreneurs, start-ups, mentors, advisors and investors, and serving as a one-stop resource for business owners, innovators and committed individuals pursuing their entrepreneurial ambitions.

 Brought to you by Broward College's Institute for Economic Development, a leading provider of workforce training and education.

The Access: The Innovation Hub offers access to mentors — through Broward College’s collaborative partnerships with Broward SCORE, the Small Business Development Center and the Enterprise Development Corporation — as well as angel investors, including New World Angels. Seminars and workshops on various business topics focused on specific skills helpful to startup companies are offered — these will also be available to the public. Through this intermingling of individuals and resources, the Innovation Hub seeks to serve as a business ecosystem that fosters efficiency and innovation.

The Facility: The 5,400 square-foot Innovation Hub offers more than a dozen private, individual offices, shared co-working space for up to 16 individuals, two small conference or mentoring rooms, as well as a fully equipped audio and video training or seminar room, which converts into two large board rooms with separate A/V capabilities. It also features 100Mps fiber broadband access with hardwired and Wi-Fi connectivity throughout the facility.

The Education: The Innovation Hub will provide opportunities for close collaborations with Broward College faculty, staff and students. Professors will work with their students and incubated companies on market research, branding, operations, financial planning and other business needs. Companies in the incubator will also be able to post internship opportunities for qualified students to fill them.

Strikers Corner: A portion of the Innovation Hub will be dedicated to sports-related startups as part of a collaboration with the Fort Lauderdale Strikers. In addition to the benefits offered by the Innovation Hub at Broward College, these startups will receive mentorship from Strikers staff and have the opportunity to pilot their ideas on the Strikers’ stadium, fans and athletes. Accepted startups will provide innovative solutions to improve athletic performance, enhance fan experience, build sustainable and smart stadiums, and better engage the local community through media and broadcasting.

The Raspberry Pi is a low cost, credit-card sized computer that plugs into a computer monitor or TV, and uses a standard keyboard and mouse. It is a capable little device that enables people of all ages to explore computing, and to learn how to program in languages like Scratch and Python. It’s capable of doing everything you’d expect a desktop computer to do, from browsing the internet and playing high-definition video, to making spreadsheets, word-processing, and playing games.

 The Jim Moran Institute for Global Entrepreneurship created Advice Straight Up: An Expert Entrepreneur Speaker Series to provide business leaders, non-profit CEOs, and entrepreneurs access to nationally recognized speakers who can share their experiences in launching new ventures and building innovative businesses. These accomplished speakers not only demonstrate genuine passion for entrepreneurship, but will also share practical, valuable insight about surviving in today's aggressive business marketplace.
