In just two years you can be working as an auto technician... have an Associate of Applied Science Degree in Auto Technology...and be part of the new breed of automotive specialists qualified to work on today’s highly-sophisticated cars.

Many schools just offer automotive technology courses. At BC, your academic and automotive classes are combined into one comprehensive, affordable program. Plus, if selected, you can start earning an income—while still in school—working at a real dealership!

Every car is different and so is every automotive program. Broward College’s two-year Automotive Technology Programs are designed to turbocharge your future. Our programs combine automotive and academic training to prepare you for more than just a job.

 Upon graduation, you’ll receive your Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in Automotive Technology. We even have a Master Technical Program for current ASE Certified Technicians who can apply their work experience towards an A.A.S. degree.
The BC Automotive Technology Program’s highly technical, interactive approach to learning prepares you for the rapidly changing automotive services industry. It is designed to help you:

Classroom Experience

​At BC, your academic and automotive classes are combined into one comprehensive, affordable program. Plus, you start earning an income—while still in school—when you intern at either a car dealership or auto repair facility.
The BC Automotive Technical Training Program and the GM Automotive Service Education Program (ASEP) housed at Broward College's Maroone Automotive Training Center is fully loaded and customized for the ultimate automotive learning experience. It’s designed to look just like a car dealership and is built to challenge you. It has everything needed for training the finest automotive technicians anywhere.

Expand your knowledge of cars with:

  • 12 new car bays
  • 40,000 square feet of space
  • Late model vehicles to work on
  • High-speed wireless computer classrooms
  • 21st century computerized diagnostic and technical equipment
  • Dedicated areas of instruction and fully-operational parts department

You will receive comprehensive hands-on instruction and training in all areas of ASE Certification, including:

  • Brakes
  • Engine Repair
  • Engine Performance
  • Suspension and Steering
  • Heating and Air Conditioning
  • Electrical/Electronic Systems
  • Manual Drive Train and Axles
  • Automatic Transmission/Transaxle
  • Specific Corporate Factory Training (GM ASEP)

Broward College’s Automotive Programs also offer the chance to “Earn as You Learn” with internships. If selected, BC Automotive students can receive a salary from a local dealership or auto repair facility in an intern position under the supervision of a master technician. Here are some of the other benefits:

  • Earn a minimum of $8/hour with 20 hours a week guaranteed
  • Receive advanced training while securing dealer specific certifications
  • Dealerships look to the BC Automotive Program for qualified employees
  • BC offers general Corporate Automotive Sponsor Programs supported by all major manufacturers 

Career Path

The Broward College Automotive Technology Program makes sure you’re heading down the right road. Our graduates find fulfilling work as service technicians at automobile dealerships and automobile repair service facilities.

Specialized training has its rewards, as the median pay for an automotive technician is approximately $30,000-$34,000, and master technicians can earn as much as $70,000 to $100,000 per year. The Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts that the number of working automotive bus and truck engine technicians will increase by 124,800 technicians through 2020.

Accreditation

​Broward College is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges, Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC) to award associate’s degrees in Automotive Technology. 
The Automotive Program is accredited by the National Automotive Technician Education Foundation (NATEF).

Automotive faculty members are experienced, highly skilled automotive technicians who have worked as techs and managers in the South Florida automotive industry. They are industry-savvy, car-loving people with the credentials to teach this computer-based, high-tech, engineering-focused program. They will help you develop the skills for working on today’s highly sophisticated cars.

Courses

moneyclip.jpgThe GM ASEP Program requires 74 credit hours while the Automotive Service Management program requires 68 credit hours to be awarded with an associate’s degree. Both programs take approximately two years to complete.

Master Technician Program candidates may be eligible for up to 41 college credits based on lifelong learning and work experience.
