FAQs - Early Childhood Education

Does Broward College offer the Child Development Associate Credential (CDA)?
No, we do not offer the CDA. We offer training and to meet the current requirements for Child Care Personnel in the State of Florida. Since the CDA credential is offered by an external agency, the Council for Professional Recognition (1-800-424-4310), we assist our students with the application/certification process for this recognition when they have completed the necessary coursework at Broward College.
What coursework within the degree program itself is necessary for earning the CDA Credential?
Students normally take three classes (EEC 1200 Early Childhood Education, EEC 1603 Child Guidance and CHD 1320 Curriculum Planning) to fulfill the requirements for the CDA, along with a documentation of work experience, classroom observation and work portfolio or professional resource file.  This training and experience is built into the program so that students can meet the credentialing requirements for the CDA.

Our program is designed as a full time, two year Associate in Science Degree Program in Early Childhood Education. Students proceed through the program at their own pace, taking 9 classes in Early Childhood Education (27 credits) and 12 classes (36 credits) n General Education and degree requirements.
What if I have prior background from work experience, other schools or another country?
Our advisors will assist you in exploring options for Experiential Credit, transfer Equivalency and Translation/Certification services that assist it the evaluation of international transcripts.
When can I begin my classes?
Upon admission, students may begin taking their classes in any term. Core classes toward the CDA are offered every term, as are the General Education classes. Specialty classes in the Early Childhood program are also offered every term, and rotate in their offering throughout the school year.
