The Computer Science curriculum features practical, hands-on applications and focuses on designing and developing real-world solution. This enables you to extensively apply what you learn before you even leave Broward College. Many of our students hold certifications from Microsoft, Oracle, Red Hat and Sun Microsystems before graduation. State-of-the-art, fully equipped laboratories feature:- Sun Solaris Unix system access
- Web development tools such as Dreamweaver and FrontPage
- Visual C++, Visual C#, Visual Basic, Java and Oracle PL/SQL programming environments
- Specialized equipment such as routers, simulators and wireless networking technologies

Broward College is regionally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, Commission on Colleges (SACS-COC) to award associate’s degrees in Computer Science.

Faculty
Computer Science faculty include seasoned IT professionals with certification in addition to master’s and doctoral degrees in computer science. Most have over 10 years of experience working in information technology. They include graduates of Nova Southeastern University, Rutgers, Arizona State University, Florida International University and Broward College. The combination of their education and experience in the IT field ensures that you are properly trained and instructed for the challenges of working in computer science.
Courses
Computer Science classes are offered on the Central and North Campuses, and some online courses are available. Course requirements and completion times vary, depending on the track you choose to follow. Certificates range from as little as 18 credits and can take up to 33 credits to complete. Degree programs range from 63 to 68 credits and generally take two years to complete if you are enrolled as a full-time student.

What programs are available?
We offer five degree types and several certificate programs. The full program requirements and course schedules are outlined below:
What is the difference between an AA, AS, A.A.S., and a Technical Certificate?
The Associate in Arts degree is conferred upon satisfactory completion of a program of lower-division courses designed to prepare students to advance to upper-division baccalaureate degree courses. This program includes 36 semester hours of general education courses in addition to courses appropriate for the upper-division major selected by the student.
The General Education Requirements are within the subject areas of communications, mathematics, social sciences, humanities, and natural sciences.
An Associate of Applied Science degree allows a student to study a specific technology or set of skills to gain entry to the workforce.
An Associate of Science is similar to an Associate of Applied Science but includes additional Mathematics courses.
A Technical Certificate is a program that allows a student to gain knowledge, skills, and abilities quickly. A student who completes a technical certificate offered by the Computer Science and Engineering Department has the option to transfer into an A.S./A.A.S. degree program.
