How do I apply and what are the requirements for the dental programs?
Eligibility for the Dental Assisting Program
  • Be a student of Broward College
  • Possess a minimum transfer and Broward College GPA of 2.5
  • ENC 1101 (Composition I)
  • SPC 1024 or SPC 1608 (Introduction to Speech or Introduction to Public Speaking)
  • HESI* Exam
  • HESI* Required scores:
  • 75 Reading Comprehension
  • 50 Math
Selection is based on highest GPA.
Eligibility for the Dental Hygiene Program 
  • Be a student of Broward College:
  • Possess a minimum transfer and Broward College GPA of 2.5
  • Complete a Florida ADA CODA accredited Dental Assisting program within the last three years, and earn the CDA certificate through successful completion of the Dental Assisting National Board Examination
  • ENC 1101 Composition I
  • SPC 1608 Introduction to Public Speaking or SPC 1024
  • Introduction to Speech Communications
  • PSY 2012 General Psychology
  • SYG 2000 Principles of Sociology

Selection is based on completion of all the prerequisite, general education, college courses and highest GPA.
How to Apply
  • Submit a Broward College application and $35 application fee
  • Send all official high school and post-secondary institutions’ transcripts
  • Submit a Health Sciences Limited Access Application and $20 application fee
  • Complete the admission requirements required by the Health Sciences department
For the Dental Assisting or Dental Hygiene application, the minimum transfer GPA, high school GPA and, if applicable, BC GPA is 2.5.
All applicants must review and sign the College's Infectious Disease Policy prior to enrollment, in addition to reviewing the drug testing and criminal background check information. All admissions, application information, prerequisite information, policies and admissions instructions can be found on the Health Sciences Admissions page
Enrollment in the dental programs is limited. Meeting the admissions requirements does not guarantee program acceptance. Applicants will be ranked according to points posted on the Health Science admissions page. The thirty-six students with the highest points who meet Dental Assisting admission requirements will be admitted into the Dental Assisting program. The sixteen students with the highest points who meet Dental Hygiene admission program requirements will be admitted into the dental hygiene program.  Please note that neither the Dental Assisting program nor the Dental Hygiene program have a waiting list.
Are there jobs available for dental assistants and dental hygienists?

Dentists consistently contact the  Dental Clinic at Broward College seeking dental assistants and dental hygienists for employment. The Dental Assisting job placement rate for 2014-2015 is 48%. Dental Hygiene job placement rate for 2014-2015 is 92%.

Is the program offered on other Broward college locations?

The program is offered only on the Broward College Central Campus in Davie, Florida where the Broward Dental Research Clinic is located.

How long are your programs?

The Dental Assisting program is a 12-month full-time daytime program that starts in June and ends the following June.

 The Dental Hygiene program is a 12-month full-time daytime program that starts  in August and ends the following August.
