​​Admissions Criteria for the AS

Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program

January 2018 Application Criteria:

  • Minimum overall GPA of 2.5.
  • Acceptance preference given to students who completed a 2 year Radiography program.

Application Period:
Open Ended (Open until all seats are filled). Begins in January*

     *Although the program admits in January – the actual programmatic SON courses begin in June.

Admission Selection Criteria:
Selection for admission is based on a Point system.  Students with the highest points will be admitted first until all seats are filled.

25 Points:  Graduate of a Radiologic Technologist or Sonography program (Applicant must provide transcript indicating program completion) OR

20 Points:  Physician's (Medical Doctor or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine) trained outside of the US. (Applicant must provide transcript indicating program completion) OR

20 Points:  Graduate of a 2 year (A.S. or A.A.S.) Health Science Program that leads to registry/licensure. (Applicant must provide transcript indicating program completion) OR

15 Points:  Graduate of a Bachelor's Degree program
It is highly recommended that students complete HSC 1531 - Medical Terminology or its equivalent to be awarded an additional 2 Points OR

10 Points:  Graduate of an Associate's Degree program

It is highly recommended that students complete HSC 1531 - Medical Terminology or its equivalent to be awarded an additional 2 Points OR

5 Points:  Applicants who have all of the following courses completed with a grade of C or above. GPA will be calculated on overall GPA.

  • PHY 1001 - Applied Physics or Radiographic Physics               3 cr
  • MAC 1105 - College Algebra                                                      3 cr
  • ENC 1101 - Composition I                                                          3 cr
  • SPC 1608 Public Speaking or SPC 1024 Intro to Speech          3 cr
  • BSC 2085 - Anatomy and Physiology I                                       3 cr
  • BSC 2085L - Anatomy and Physiology I Lab                              1 cr

It is highly recommended that students complete HSC 1531 - Medical Terminology or its equivalent to be awarded an additional 2 Points.

In the event of a tie, overall GPA will be used as the tiebreaker.

Military Service – Applicants who have served in the US Armed Forces active duty and honorably discharged veterans will be awarded an additional 5 points.

Additional Information:
For the January 2016 Diagnostic Medical Sonography program, students were admitted who had 17-25 points and GPAs of 2.5 to 4.0.  Alternate students had 15 points with GPAs of 2.5 to 4.0
