Are there any prerequisites to the program?
Applicants must fulfill the requirements for Admission to Health Science Programs.
You must have a minimum 2.00

You must complete the Pre-Health Core requirements ( HSC0405, HSC 0522, HSC 0591, and HSC 0692)  prior to admission to the program or contact- Program Manager if you have difficult finding available courses. 954-201-2080- Nina Mckie

What type of degree do I receive?

You will be awarded an Associate of Science degree.​

When does the program start?

Once a year in August.

Where and when are classes held?

The program is offered in Building 41 on North Campus.

Are there any other requirements to obtain work?
Students need to complete a National Certification Exam and State Licensure to work as a Licensed Optician.​
Is financial aid available?
Yes, financial aid is available for all Broward College students. Please see the Financial Aid page for more information.​
How long is the program?

Two years.​

Are there part-time classes?

No the program is full- time, students that have completed all general education course work will have less than 12 credits hours the first 3 semesters, which is considered part-time.

Are there college credits for the Vision Care Program

Yes.

What is the dress code?
Students can dress casual for lecture courses, but must wear medical scrubs for clinic.
Is there help with learning the material?

Tutoring sessions are conducted weekly and learning software is available in the Learning Resource Center.

If I must leave the program, will I be able to return?
Students can return to the program if there is an emergency situation. You must return within one year. Otherwise, you must start over as a new student.​
Is there job placement available?
The College will assist in your job search through the Career Center, but cannot guarantee employment. There are many employers who contact the program manager and advertise locally about employment opportunities.​
