Health Science Admissions Steps

Follow these steps to begin the health science admissions process.

Health science program applicants should review our programs' admissions selection criteria before proceeding with the program application process.

Health science programs, whether they are limited access or open enrollment, have specific prerequisites that must be completed prior to submitting the application for consideration in the applied program.

Program prerequisites may include the satisfaction of courses, academic testing (e.g. HESI), licenses and certifications, or prior work experience.

All courses taken as part of a health science limited access program's prerequisites must be completed with a 'C' or higher with grades officially posted on the student's record on or prior to a health science limited access program's application period deadline. Requirements completed after a health science limited access program's application period deadline will not be accepted and will not be used to award application points. Please review the academic calendar for more information regarding term durations and grade postings.

You may only apply to a health science program if the following conditions are met:

* The program's application period must be open
* All program's admissions prerequisites must be complete

How to: Check if your official transcripts have been received by Broward College

If Broward College is the ONLY college where you have earned college credits, no further action is required for this step.

Request that your official college transcripts from other institutions you have attended be sent to a Broward College campus or mailed to the Registrar's Office:

College Registrar's Office
4205 Bonaventure Blvd.
Weston, FL 33332

All official transcripts must be received and evaluated to determine that the required program prerequisites are complete. Available academic records are reviewed to make admission decisions.

Students with courses taken at universities outside of the United States and under a non-U.S. educational system must have their transcripts officially translated into English and commercially evaluated prior to submitting the application.

BC only accepts official commercial evaluations performed by a NACES member. In addition, BC only accepts official certified translations from a NACES member or from an organization certified by the ATA.

BC limited-access health science programs do NOT allow transfer credits for core courses. Core courses are program-specific courses, such as those earned from Nursing program courses. All BC limited-access health science program core courses must be taken at BC, only. However, general education credits, such as those earned from Math or Humanities courses, may be transferable, depending on the transfer institution. Refer to the BC Transfer Equivalency Service (TES) or contact an academic advisor for more information regarding course transferability.

IMPORTANT NOTE: For students who are applying to Broward College for the first time, and have transfer credits, it is recommended that all documentation be sent at least seven (7) business days prior to the close of the published application period for the program to which you are applying. This will help ensure you will be considered for the upcoming term of that program.

Limited-Access Program Applications: Once the student applies to a limited-access health science program, BC Health Science Admissions staff will evaluate the application and assess the applicant's eligibility for the program to which they applied. Program eligibility for limited-access programs is determined by the satisfaction of prerequisites prior to applying, as well as the program application being submitted during the program's application period. Limited-access health science program applications submitted outside their prescribed application periods will not be considered. The Health Science Admissions team then applies the program's point system to each application. Once program eligibility is confirmed, each criterion for awarding points within the application is evaluated based on the program's respective point system.

Open-Enrollment Program Applications: Once the student applies to a BC open-enrollment health science program, BC Health Science Admissions staff will determine their eligibility for the program to which they applied. Program eligibility is determined by the completion of program prerequisites.

When the program application evaluation is completed by the Health Sciences Admissions team, the applicant can review their earned application points and/or satisfaction of pre-requisites.

After the program application period closes and program applications are evaluated, BC Health Science Admissions staff will send you an admission selection decision (accepted or denied) into the program within 30 business days (excluding weekends, federal holidays, and other college closure days) after the program application period closes. Applicants are responsible for checking their program application status.

To check the status of your application:

  1. Log into your BC OneLogin account.
  2. Click the myBC tile.
  3. Click on Records.
  4. Click on Limited Access Application Status.
    Limited access application review

Program admissions selection decisions will be sent to the applicant's BC student email.

Accepted Students Only: Steps 5 and 6 are only applicable to students who have been accepted into a BC Health Science limited access program. Check your program application status in your myBC account.

Each limited-access health science program provides its own program orientation for ACCEPTED and ALTERNATE program applicants. These orientations are administered solely by the respective program office. Information for each program's orientation will be emailed to accepted students via their Broward College student email.

Program orientations are mandatory, typically held in person, and discuss the following topics:

  • Uniforms and overall dress code
  • Books and other course materials
  • Clinical rotations, health practicum, and outpatient visits with hospitals and medical centers
  • Course registration process
  • Other program requirements, as needed

The college reserves the right to change any of the rules and regulations of the Health Science Department at any time, including those related to admission, instruction, and graduation. All such changes are effective at such time as the proper authorities determine and may apply not only to prospective students but also to those who already are enrolled in a Health Science Program. All enrolled students will be notified in writing of such changes as they occur.

Paperwork should not be completed by any health science limited access program applicant until the BC Health Science Admissions department officially offers the applicant a seat in the applied program.

Accepted limited access health science applicants are required to complete the following:
  • Background check
  • Drug screening
  • Medical History & Physical Examination form (see forms below)
Instructions for these requirements will be provided by the Health Science Admission office upon selection.

Participation and placement may be denied at a clinical agency based on the background or drug screening results and/or the clinical agency's pre-employment screening policy.

Prior to admission, each student is required to successfully complete a drug screening. Please be advised that certain over-the-counter supplements and alternative medicinal products, including but not limited to CBD, THC, Cannabinoid, and Cannabinoid Oil may trigger a positive result, and consequently, the student will be ineligible for the Health Science program.
