In his six years as head baseball coach at Broward Community College, Bob Deutschman has produced a nationally respected program committed to instructing and developing players to achieve success at the collegiate and professional levels. This commitment has transpired into team success for the Seahawk program, including two Southern Conference Championships (2003, 2006), one FCCAA state championship (2006), a third place finish at the JUCO World Series (2006) and a number-one ranking in the FCCAA and NJCAA pre-season polls (2007). Deutschman, who has received Coach of the Year honors from the FCCAA (2006) and the Southern Conference (2003, 2006), has accumulated an overall record of 195-99 (.663) during his tenure at BCC. The BCC baseball program has been to the FCCAA State Tournament four out of his six years (2003, 2005, 2006, 2008) that coach Deutschman has been at the helm, despite never making since the programs’ inception in 1963.
Under the tutelage of Deutschman and his coaching staff, 44 players have been named to the all-Southern conference teams, nine were selected all-FCCAA, 18 received scholarships to NCAA Division I universities and 16 have signed professional contracts. Last year, Matt Gilson was name Southern Conference pitcher of the year and joined Tito Espinosa, J.J. Jimenez, and Anthony Mesa as all-conference selections. Gilson was also named to the FCCAA all-state first-team and Espinosa was named second-team. Additionally, Espinosa was drafted in the 15th round (445th overall) by the Kansas City Royals and Chad Rose was selected in the 16th round (497th overall) by the Colorado Rockies in the 2008 MLB Amateur Draft.
Before his return to BCC, where he worked as an assistant coach for the 1998 team, Deutschman served three years as pitching coach at Florida Atlantic University, directing one of the top staffs in the nation. During the 2001 season, his staff compiled a 31-7 record and a 3.03 earned run average, earning a spot in the NCAA Super Regional Tournament against Georgia Tech University. Before his position at FAU, Deutschman was the pitching coach and recruiter for Nova Southeastern University from 1991-1997. Deutschman played baseball at NSU as a starting pitcher from 1987 to 1991. He is married to the former Shawn Behrenbruch and they are the proud parents of two-year old son Matthew and newborn son Luke.
