Greg Brown--Assistant Coach

Hitting and Catching Coach

1st Year

Greg Brown is another up and coming coach who joins the Seahawks staff to serve as hitting and catching instructor.  Coach Brown is a sharp student and teacher of the game who has brought the same tenacity towards the game into his coaching career as he did as a player.  Coach Brown is a local who played his high school ball at Chaminade-Madonna College Preparatory (Hollywood, FL) for Coach Paul Herfurth and Coach Michael Mominey.  He then went on to catch at Lynn University (Boca Raton, FL) under the tutelage of Gregg Kilby for his first two years and then Rudy Garbalosa for his final three seasons.  Although he suffered a broken hammate bone in his left hand during the beginning of his sophomore year, Greg was able receive a medical red-shirt and gained an extra year of eligibility.  He used that time wisely as he completed his master’s degree program within one calendar year and received the Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year in 2003 from Lynn University.  After a strong collegiate career, Greg signed with the Florida Marlins as a non-drafted free agent in June of 2003.  With the Marlins he played to the double-A level with stints in the major leagues during spring training.  He was released at the end of spring training in 2007 from the Marlins and joined the York Revolution of the Atlantic League.  After much success and garnered attention, Greg retired from his playing career to pursue his career as a coach.  Greg was a great defensive catcher who was known for his ability to work with a pitching staff.  Some past pitcher’s Coach Brown has worked with are major leaguers Josh Johnson, Scott Olsen, Josh Beckett, A.J. Burnett, John Smoltz, and Dontrelle Willis among many others. Dontrelle and Coach Brown have cultivated a working relationship where Greg helps prepare the major league all-star every off-season.  In 2005, Greg Brown partnered with Perfect Competition (Davie, FL) to serve as the Director of Baseball and began a baseball program within the confines of the athletic development center.  The program grew to influence hundreds of clients from little leaguers to the likes of major leaguers Mike Napoli, Raul Ibanez, Magglio Ordonez, Miguel Tejada, and Manny Ramirez.  Coach Brown served as Manny’s private hitting coach to prepare him for the 2007 season.  After nearly two years of private instruction, Coach Brown left Perfect Competition to pursue a career in coaching with Seahawks alongside his longtime friend, Coach Bone.  Coach Brown welcomes the challenge of coaching at the college ranks and looks forward to continuing the winning tradition bestowed on this program under Coach Deutschman.  Coach Brown’s brother-in-law is former Seahawks standout outfielder Rian Kiniry is now currently playing with the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.  Coach Brown and his wife Shairin live in Tamarac, FL with their daughter Kennadi Reise and their dog Slugger.
