Q:
How do I qualify for the program?
A:
You will need a high school diploma or GED. A College Placement Test (CPT) is also required. Learn more about our admission requirements.

What will this program do for me?
A:
It will prepare you for an entry-level automotive technician position and provide you with the academic background to pursue automotive services industry management positions.
 
Q:
How long does it take to complete the program?
A:
Just two years... and you’ll be a trained auto technician qualified for immediate job placement.
 
Q:
Do graduates receive a degree?
A:
Yes, and that’s a major reason you should consider this program. We don’t give out diplomas. After just two years, you can receive your Associate of Science Degree in Automotive Technology.
 
Q:
What about ASE Certification?
A:
You’ll need to complete two years of work and pass your ASE certifications to qualify. This program helps you fulfill the work experience requirements and the curriculum prepares you very well for your ASE examinations.

Is Broward College accredited?
A:
BC is nationally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges & Schools (SACS), recognized accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education.

What kind of education will I receive?
A:
You’ll expand your academic knowledge base, learn automotive skills for working on today’s cars and receive paid on-the-job training while in school. It’s a win-win-win situation!

Who sponsors your corporate programs?
A:
Major manufacturers such as General Motors, Ford, Toyota, Daimler and Honda all offer programs available to you.

What kind of instructors will I have?
A:
BC Automotive instructors are industry-savvy, car-loving people with the credentials to teach this computer-based, high-tech, engineering-focused program and help you develop the skills for working on today’s highly sophisticated cars.

How long has BCbeen involved in automotive training?
A:
While our newest 40,000 sq. ft. center recently opened in 2006, BC has been in partnership with local automotive technical centers for the past 20 years.

How many credits will I need to graduate?
A:
74 total credit hours:
    44 Auto and Technical Service credits
    18 General Education credits
    12 Dealership Intern credits

How much does the program cost?
A:
Tuition for 74 total credit hours at $69.80 per credit is $5,165. Many students qualify for scholarships, grants or federal loans.

Q:
What kind of work experience will I receive while in school?
A:
Every BC Automotive Technology Program student is required to serve an internship at a local dealership. You’ll receive hands-on experience under the supervision of a Master Technician and pick up dealer-specific certifications.
 
Q:
Will I be paid while I intern?
A:
Yes, we call it “Earn as Your Learn.” You will receive a starting salary of at least $8.00 per hour—while still in school—with a guarantee for 16-hours per week or more.
 
Q:
Can my internship position turn into a fulltime job?
A:
Getting a foot in the door at a dealership is a great way to create an ongoing employment opportunity for yourself if the dealership feels you’re a good fit.
 
Q:
Will you help find me a job after I receive my degree?
A:
Many dealerships look to our program for well-trained technicians. Every major manufacturer sponsors our programs and we’re supported by the South Florida Automotive Dealers. With your academic and automotive training, and a short supply of trained technicians, you can expect to be in demand.
 
Q:
What kind of employment will be available to me once I graduate?
A:
Acquiring your ASE Certification prepares you for more than 35,000 jobs in need of qualified candidates. Many of our graduates start out as entry level technicians at dealerships, independent and specialty shops, and trucking companies. Others pursue careers in related areas such as the parts industry.

A:

Financial Aid Q&A
Q:
Is financial aid available?
A:
Federal student loans, grants and subsidized or unsubsidized funding may be available if you are eligible.
 
Q:
What about scholarships?
A:
You may qualify for a free or partial scholarship. The costs of your books, uniforms and even tools could be covered or offset.
 
Q:
Who should apply for financial aid?
A:
Anyone planning to apply for student or parental loans should file.
 
Q:
What is the process for applying for financial aid?
A:
Upon acceptance to the program, you’ll receive a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. Complete the application as soon as you receive it to allow for processing. Either mail it in or, for faster processing, submit your form online.
 
Q:
How will I know if I’m approved for financial aid?
A:
Our Financial Aid Department will let you know what aid, if any, you qualify for prior to the start of classes.
