The DaimlerChrysler College Automotive Program (CAP)


The DaimlerChrysler College Automotive Program (CAP) is a joint effort of the DaimlerChrysler Corporation, local DaimlerChrysler Corporation Dealerships, Sheridan Technical  Center (STC), and Broward Community College to provide the technical training and the hands-on experience to be a successful factory trained DaimlerChrysler Corporation Automobile Technician. FINANCIAL AID All students are encouraged to apply for financial aid at BCC South during the initial application process. Many students not eligible for grants can obtain student loans through BCC South that will cover the cost of the program. Total estimated cost for tuition, books and transfer fees is approximately $6000.00. A basic tool set in the amount of $1000.00 is required before graduation.

EARN WHILE YOU LEARN While working at the dealership, students receive a trainees wage usually starting at about $8.50 per hour. This totals to about $20,000 earned during the two year program.

 

CAP STUDENT SCHEDULE Students attend STC twenty hours a week (1:00 PM to 6:00 PM) Monday through Thursday in eight week blocks. During this time students also attend a BCC academic class. Students usually work twenty-five hours a week at their CAP dealership during this class term. Students who need college prep courses will be required to attend class an additional night a week until they are completed. The following eight weeks, students will work at their CAP dealership for about forty hours a week usually under the supervision of a Master Technician.The student is responsible for documenting this work experience as part of the program.

 

CAP II STUDENT SCHEDULE Students attend STC one day a week (8:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Monday) while working at their dealership full-time Tuesday through Friday. During this time, students also attend an academic class one night a week at BCC or their local Community College. Students who need college prep courses will be required to attend class an additional night a week until they are completed. Students will usually work thirty to forty hours a week at their CAP II dealership usually under the supervision of a Master Technician. The student is responsible for documenting this work experience as part of the program. CAP II was designed to serve students and dealers that are farther than 30 miles from the schools.

 

CERTIFICATION CAP students will be prepared to take the ASE automobile certification tests during the normal length of the program. Students will also obtain some official DaimlerChrysler Factory Training in a wide variety of areas. This training is recognized by DaimlerChrysler dealers world wide.
