About the Aviation Institute

The Aviation Institute links Broward College (BC) South Campus with North Perry Airport in Pembroke Pines. It’s the only public facility in south Florida with direct access to an airport dedicated to the training of aviation professionals and technicians. Since 1966 our aviation school has been preparing students for careers leading to a two-year Associate of Science (AS) or Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in:
- Professional Pilot Technology
- Aviation Maintenance Management
- Aviation Operations
- Airport Operations Management
- Air Traffic Control
The Aviation Institute provides hands-on training to prepare students in the competitive field of aviation. It provides FAA approved certificate programs in Airframe and Powerplant, and FCC approved certificate in Avionics. In only 20 months the student can obtain their A & P licenses and move directly into the aviation maintenance industry.
The Professional Pilot Technology degree is conducted in partnership with Delta Connection Academy (DCA) and prepares students for private pilot, instrument ratings, commercial pilot, and flight instructor (CFI) FAA certifications. BC also offers a professional pilot degree on-line. Students entering into this program must hold all required FAA certificates and ratings prior to starting the program.
Airport Operations Management and Aviation Operations are two degrees designed for individuals whose career objectives include a wide variety of staff, operational, management or administrative positions in the aviation field. Students practice real world experience and the day-to-day activities in the field while learning the regulatory requirements of international airports.
The Air Traffic Control program is designed to provide qualified applicants to fill developmental air traffic control specialist (ATCS) positions. The FAA has partnerships with selected colleges and universities to offer two- and four-year degrees that teach basic courses in air traffic control.
