A grant is a financial aid award that does not have to be repaid unless, for example, the student withdraws from school or does not meet satisfactory academic progress and owes a refund. Grants are often need-based and may be offered by the U.S Department of Education, Florida Department of Education or Broward College.

 

Federal Grants
Federal Pell Grant

What is it?

The Federal Pell Grant is a need-based award administered by the Financial Aid office.

Awards are offered based on an assumption of full-time enrollment. These estimates are recalculated based on the student's actual enrollment and whether or not the courses apply to the student's declared degree.

If a student has unused pell funding from the Fall and/or Spring term(s), due to less than half-time enrollment, the remaining funds may be "rolled over" into the Summer term. Summer eligibility will also be based on enrollment.

A student may receive Pell for up to 12 semeters before reaching the Lifetime Eligibility Used (LEU).

How do I apply?

In order to apply, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

How much can I get? 

The maximum award amount for the 2019-2020 academic year is $6,195. The amount awarded will depend on the student's:

    ·         financial need

    ·         cost of attendance

    ·         status as a full-time or part-time student

    ·         ​plans to attend school for a full academic year or less


You may use the 2019-2020 Pell Grant Calculator in order to calculate an estimate of your Federal Pell Grant eligibility.

 

Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG)

What is it?

FSEOG is a need-based award administered by the Financial Aid office. Students must be enrolled in a minimum of six credits to be considered for this award. Funding is limited and awards are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.

How do I apply?

In order to apply, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

How much can I get? 

The maximum award amount for the 2019-2020 academic year is $1,500; the amount awarded is dependent on the students' financial need and the availability of funding.

State Grants
First Generation Matching Grant (FGMG)

What is it?

FGMG is a need-based award administered by the Financial Aid office. Students must be Florida residents. In addition, students must be degree-seeking and enrolled in a minimum of six credits to be considered for this award. In order to be considered, students must have a parent(s) who has not earned a baccalaureate or higher degree. Funding is limited and awards are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.

How much can I get? 

The maximum award amount for the 2019-2020 academic year is $1,000; the amount awarded is dependent on the students' financial need and the availability of funding.

Florida Student Assistance Grant (FSAG)

What is it?

FSAG is a need-based award administered by the Financial Aid office. Students must Florida residents. In addition, students must be be degree-seeking and enrolled in a minimum of six credits to be considered for this award. Funding is limited and awards are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.

How do I apply?

In order to apply, students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

How much can I get? 

The maximum award amount for the 2019-2020 academic year is $2,400; the amount awarded is dependent on the students' financial need and the availability of funding.


Please Note: Broward College does not offer the Florida Resident Access Grant (FRAG).

Institutional Grants
Merit-Based Grants

What are they?

Merit-based grants are awards administered by the Financial Aid office. Students must have a minimum 3.0 GPA to be considered for these awards. Funding is limited and awards are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.

How do I apply?

We encourage students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

How much can I get? 

The amount awarded is dependent on the students' financial need and the availability of funding.

Need-Based Grants

What are they?

Need-based grants are awards administered by the Financial Aid office. Funding is limited and awards are offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
