Classroom Research

"Classroom Research” Defined:
“…the study by classroom teachers of the impact of their teaching on the students in their classrooms. The basic premise…is that teachers should use their classrooms as laboratories to study the learning process… teachers should become skillful, systematic observers of how the students in their classrooms learn.”

                                                                - K. Patricia Cross

If you would like to be a recipient of the  Classroom Research Award and have a research idea that will help you assess your students' learning outcomes or a best teaching practice based on instructional theory you propose to research, you are encouraged to participate.  At least twice annually, the Institute requests proposals for mini-classroom research grants.  Honoraria of $1000 are awarded upon successful completion and evaluation of the classroom research. Please read the CRA Call for Proposals document for deadlines and contact information for the current term.

Featured below are the results of successful proposals submitted by 3 CRA awardees:

"Does Incorporating Supplemental Online Video Instruction into a Traditional Intermediate Algebra Course Increase Student Success?"

"Accent the Positive: Linking Course Content with Linguistic and Cultural Diversity"

"Understanding Presidential Campaigns through Campaign Simulation"

These winners join the ranks of prior awardees whose proposals were put into action to benefit the BC community.  If you are interested in applying in the future but aren't sure how to put together a winning proposal, take a look at what your colleagues have successfully implemented:
