Academic stars shine brightly each May when the Honors Institute hosts a college-wide Honors Awards Celebration (formerly called Honors Convocation).


The President of Broward Community College, the Board of Trustees, alumni, administrators, faculty, and students come together to acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of the Honors Institute students.

Departmental and Academic Dean's Awards are presented from each campus. The highlight of the event is the official endowment of more than 150 university transfer scholarships awarded annually to Honors Institute graduates for all ten of Florida's state universities and many private universities, such as Nova Southeastern, Barry University, and the University of Miami. Qualified graduates of the Honors Institute have also been awarded scholarships to the most prestigious colleges and universities in the nation, such as Harvard, Tulane, Cal-Berkley, Smith, Georgetown, MIT, University of Chicago, University of Texas/Austin and many more.

Following the celebration, many of the students honored at the celebration will be be featured in the new online Honors Institute Student Hall of Fame. Professional photos from the event will on display in the new Honors Photo Album.

Students are nominated by campus faculty for the Dept. and Dean's awards and do not have to apply for them. Well in advance of the event, the Honors Institute sends formal invitations to all of the students who will be recognized for the following achievements:Click to advance...
