| Broward College's Math Team has won both team and individual
competitions at the state level. The team competes at the
annual Florida state Math Olympics, held each year near the
beginning of April. Team members travel to Jacksonville to
participate in the event, which is located at the University
of North Florida. There are two parts to the event, a team
portion and an individual portion.
Winners take home trophies and cash prizes and may also receive
a BC scholarship. After a period of inactivity a few years
ago, the Math Team has returned with a vengeance, earning first
place team victories and second place individual victories
in both 2004 and 2005. We urge you to visit the Student
Hall of Fame, where
Math Team students and winners are featured. You may also check
out the new Honors Photo Album to see competition pictures.
The Robert "Bob" Elmore Honors Institute offers scholarships to competing team members. Victories also look great on a resume and may help students earn transfer scholarships.
The
team members are chosen based on a math
test administered by The Robert "Bob" Elmore Honors Institute in the fall and spring
terms. Teams usually meet with the coaches on a weekly basis
to practice. A math level of Calculus II is recommended. Membership
on the Math Team gives students another way to excel at Broward College and is a highly enjoyable experience.
