What is the Broward Health Scholarship?

It is a scholarship program designated for individuals interested in a career in one of the Health Science programs offered by Broward Community College. The Broward Health currently sponsors the following Health Science Programs at Broward Community College:

Nuclear MedicineRespiratory Care

Each of the above scholarships are awarded on a need basis which is determined by the Broward Health.  Therefore, the number of scholarships awarded is based on this need, and will vary each year.
Note: There is always a possibility that a particular program may not offer scholarships that year.

The Broward Health Scholarship awards are based upon merit. Therefore, the Scholarship Coordinator will check your GPA, your references, and talk with your instructors. If you qualify, you will be invited to participate in a personal interview. If you are selected to receive a District Scholarship, the cost of your tuition (required courses) and required textbooks will be paid. The scholarship value is approximately $6,000.

What are my obligations under this program?

If you are selected to receive a Broward Health, you must remain in good academic standing throughout your entire Health Science Program. Upon completion of your degree, you will be required to work for a two-year employment commitment at one of the four hospitals comprising the Broward Health. Hence, you would be obligated to an employment agreement equal to the number of years you were sponsored. Employment opportunities are available at the District's four main medical centers (Broward General Medical Center * Coral Springs Medical Center * Imperial Point Medical Center * North Broward Medical Center), and several primary care facilities and clinics located throughout Broward County.

As an employee, your pay and benefits would be the same as any other entry-level person of the same position! In other words, you would not receive any less pay or benefits because you received scholarship funds to attend college.

What are the requirements to apply for the Broward Health Scholarship?

To be considered for participation in this program, you must have a minimum grade point average of 2.0. In addition, you must be officially notified by the Health Science District Admissions Services of acceptance, and be enrolled in the health science program of your choice. To fulfill this requirement, all necessary admissions criteria must be completed, and formal acceptance received prior to applying for a scholarship. Therefore, you would submit your scholarship application in the first semester you were accepted into your specific health science program.
