BCC
GroupWise Student E-Mail System
Where
can I view my student e-mail?
Student e-mail can be viewed from Internet Explorer or Netscape on any computer (school, home, or at work) that has Internet access by using the Student E-Mail link on the BCC homepage. Is
there a more direct way to access student e-mail then starting from the BCC
home page?
Student e-mail can be directly accessed by going to http://mail.broward.edu:88 Sometimes,
I have problems logging into my student e-mail.
If you have a problem logging in to student e-mail then you can contact the helpdesk at 954-201-7521 After
awhile, the student e-mail logs me out. Why does it do this and how can I
increase the time before I am logged out?
The e-mail system will automatically log you out after 20 minutes. This is a security precaution to make sure that if you leave it open it will not allow someone to access your e-mail. You can change the timeout by accessing your e-mail options (see Quick Reference for instructions). Can
I access my student e-mail with an e-mail client?
Student e-mail was designed to be accessed from any web browser, however, it also works with common e-mail clients such as Outlook or Netscape Mail. The incoming and outgoing SMTP servers are both mail.broward.edu (BCC supports the web-based e-mail system but not Outlook, Netscape Mail, or other POP3 clients). Sometimes,
when I send an email, I get a response back that the message can’t be
sent because it has exceeded mailbox size limit.
Individual mailbox sizes are limited to 5MB. If someone tries to send you an email, and your mailbox is full, they will get a returned email with an error message that it could not be sent. Likewise, if you try to send to someone whose mailbox is full, you will receive an error message back indicating the message could not be sent. Make sure to clear out any emails that you do not need. Can
I send files along with my e-mail and, if so, how large can those files be?
You can send documents as attachments to e-mails (see Student Instructions ), however, they are limited to 2 MB in size Is
there a way to change to look of my student e-mail to make it more interesting?
Student e-mail has a common, easy to use, interface. You have the capability of changing the look of your e-mail by accessing the e-mail Options (see Quick Reference for instructions). Is
there a way to create a Sent Items folder?
By default, your student e-mail will only include an “Inbox”. If you would like a “Sent Items” you can set one up (see Quick Reference for instructions). How
do I use the address book?
The address book provides access to any e-mail addresses in the student e-mail (see Quick Reference for instructions). When
I log in to the student e-mail system, do I use my Userid or the whole e-mail
address?
When you login, you only need to provide your UserID and not the entire e-mail address (example. Use – student Not- student@mail.broward.edu) When
you go through the link to your e-mail; there is no easy way back to the home
page. You usually just have to start over again
This is true but may change with future development. The
student e-mail needs more publicity before today I didn't know it existed
Professors will begin to use this e-mail system more and you will find out about it as you receive class information from your professors.
