International Centers - Affiliates

BCInternationalEdLogo.jpg
Broward College has well-established international programs in South America, Asia and Europe where students can enroll for college credit toward a degree or earn a full degree.  Existing partnerships can be identified in three categories as described below:

Academic Affiliate
An Academic Affiliate is an institution outside of the United States that has adopted a portion of the curriculum of Broward College.   Students attending the school are generally from the local area.  The course numbers, titles, descriptions, outlines and student learning outcomes are the same as students follow in Florida.  These courses are taught in English typically by local faculty in the host country who meet the qualifications as required by our regional accrediting body, the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Schools and Colleges (SACS) and are approved by Broward College.  However, students taking courses at an Academic Affiliate are not Broward College students because the academic programs offered at the Affiliate have not yet been approved by SACS.  Thus, at the Academic Affiliate level, all of the grades and courses are recorded by the host institution, not by Broward College.

Currently, Affiliates are located in China, Colombia, Guyana, and Bolivia.

International Center
A partnering institution becomes an International Center when the Broward academic program or programs offered at the host institution have been approved by the Commission on Colleges of SACS. Students who study in a Broward College program at an International Center are students of Broward College. This means that student coursework will appear on a Broward College transcript, and students who successfully complete the program requirements will earn an Associate's degree from Broward College.  Most institutions that have become an International Center started as an Academic Affiliate.

Currently, International Centers are located in Ecuador, Peru, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Singapore and India.

Study Abroad Centers
Broward College has entered into agreements with institutions abroad to offer students at Broward College and elsewhere the opportunity to travel to foreign country for a Study Abroad experience for full semester (fall or spring) or a shorter summer program.  Students enroll for credit-bearing courses and transfer credits back to Broward College or to their home institution.

Currently, Study Abroad Centers are located in Spain, Germany, Peru, and India.

Note: Our SACS accreditation extends only to the Broward College academic programs offered in Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Ecuador, Peru and India, not to the institutions themselves.
