Fire Science

The Associate in Science Degree in Fire Science Technology, located on A. Hugh Adams Central Campus, is designed for fire service or fire protection related professionals, to enhance technical competencies, and prepare them for career advancement through participation in appropriate courses of study. The program provides options for concentrated study including Fire Investigator, Fire Officer, and Municipal Fire Inspector specialties. Accelerated programs are offered in a series of required (3) credit courses, to prepare students for State Fire Officer I, Municipal Fire Inspector I, or Fire Investigator I certification. Exams for the above certifications are hosted at the Institute  of Public Safety  on a quarterly basis.  Application is made directly to the Florida State Fire College in Ocala.

If you are not a firefighter and would like to become one, before taking our program you should get your EMT and Paramedic certifications (available at Broward Community College, 954-201-6290) and complete a state certified Fire Academy, such as the Broward Fire Academy (754-321-1300) or the Coral Springs Fire Academy (954-346-1774).  Typically, the EMT certificate, Paramedic certificate and Fire Academy (Basic Firefighter) certificate are all required before you can be hired as a firefighter in Broward County.
