Phi Theta
Kappa - Mu Mu Chapter
Who
We Are
The
Mu Mu Chapter chartered on November 26, 1962 is a local student chapter
of Phi Theta Kappa. Phi Theta Kappa is the international society of
the two-year that serves to promote and reward academic achievement
among community college students. The society emphasizes personal growth
in scholarship, leadership, fellowship, and service. The Mu Mu Chapter
is one of three chapters at Broward Community College. Our chapter is
located on the Central Campus in Davie and continues, year after year,
to be one of the top chapters in the nation. The Mu Mu Chapter is strongly
tied to the college's Honors program and is heavily involved in several
of the college's academic and service activities.
What
We Do
Throughout
the academic year, the Mu Mu Chapter organizes many activities. Since
the most important Hallmark of Phi Theta Kappa is Scholarship, the Mu
Mu Chapter assists in activities such as Brain Bowl, Scholar Bowl, Graduation
and Honors Convocation.
The chapter also has a distinguished service program and is involved
with programs such as Habitat for Humanity, Environmental Awareness,
Kids In Distress, and AIDS awareness programs. In the area of leadership,
the Mu Mu Chapter organizes speakers on campus and is involved in Student
Government and Student Life.
The Mu Mu Chapter serves as a great avenue for
getting to know fellow peers. Throughout the year, the chapter holds
get-together parties and organizes social activities. For those who
like to travel, the Mu Mu Chapter annually attends Regional Meetings
(convention for all Florida chapters) and Internationals (convention
for all chapters). Beyond the conventions, a few
fortunate members may also get the chance to attend the Phi Theta Kappa
Honors Institute, a scholastic workshop at a prestigious American university.
Membership in Phi Theta Kappa has numerous advantages. Last year, Phi
Theta Kappa members received over 38 million dollars in scholarships.
Phi Theta Kappa itself also has many exciting scholarship opportunities
available to members. We have a fax information line, where members
may solicit, by state, the scholarships available.
