Campus Volunteering |
Every semester, volunteers are needed in the OVAL Office in Student
Life, to help coordinate our volunteer efforts. In the future, there
will be more on-campus volunteer opportunities. If you would like to
volunteer to work in the OVAL office, please stop by the Student Life
office. remember to download the forms located above before you come
in.

Volunteering |
All off-campus volunteer efforts are coordinated through
Volunteerbroward.org. Please
visit their website. If you see a volunteer oppotunity that you would like
to be part of, come down to the OVAL office first so that we can

Adopt A Manatee
$20 is the fee for a club/class to adopt a manatee.
Your club/class will also receive the following:
•
An adoption certificate, photo and biography of "your" manatee
•
A 28-page membership handbook with information on manatees
•
The Manatee Zone, SMC's Club newsletter, which is sent four times
a year.
The newsletter features updates on manatees in the adoption
program written by Ranger Wayne Hartley from Blue Spring State
Park, Ranger Betsy Dearth from Homosassa Springs Wildlife State
Park, and biologists from the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation
Commission.

Your monies will:
• Fund manatee rescue, rehabilitation, and research efforts in the U.S.
• Support manatee education and public awareness projects
• Protect manatees and their habitat through advocacy and legal action |

Clean-Up
Sat. Sept 22, 2007!
The O.V.A.L. Office will conduct a cleanup at Hollywood Beach Park
from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm.
It's easy to participate, register at Student Life (bldg 19 Room
106) fill out some forms and you are set. All you need to do is show
up! All volunteers will get free park admission, lunch, and giveaways!

Volunteers needed to Tutor Middle School
Students!
REQUIREMENTS
1. A letter of recommendation from a BCC instructor
2. Must have passed a course in the subject area to be tutored with a grade
of “B” or better.
3. Must be available to volunteer two three hours a week for the term.
4. Mandatory – Two hour mentor training.
5. Security background check level two the fee for this will be waived. At
the mentor training, the students will be given vouchers for the security
clearance.
6. Must secure transportation to security clearance and to middle school.
7. Volunteer hours will be reflected on student transcripts.

The Office of Volunteer and Leadership
(OVAL Office) is currently collecting new teddy bears for the
Davie Police Department.
The Davie Police uses the bears to comfort small children when
they receive a call where children are involved.
The bears can be dropped off in the OVAL Office in Building
19, Room 106 throughout the month of January.
