Q: How do I qualify for the program?
A: You must posses a high school diploma or GED

  1.   You must be 18 years of age or older
  2.   You must have a valid drivers license
  3.   You must meet "drug free" workplace requirements

Q: What will this program do for me?
A: It will prepare you for an exciting career as a highly-trained Marine    
    Technician and provide you with all the academic background needed to  
    pursue any Marine Management Position.

Q: How long does it take to complete the program?
A: Just two years...and you’ll be a highly-trained, highly sought after
    Marine Technician qualified for immediate job placement.

Q: Do graduates receive a degree?
A: Yes and that’s a major reason you should consider this program. We don’t    
    give out diplomas. After just two years, you can receive your Associates of
    Science Degree in Marine Technology.

Q: What about AYSE Certification?
A: The BCC Marine curriculum was developed in cooperation with
     The American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) who will provide graduates     
      with their highly respected Marine certification.

Q: Is Broward Community College accredited?
A: BCC is nationally accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges &   
    Schools, (SACS) recognized accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of         
    Education.


Curriculum and Credits Q&A

Q: What kind of education will I receive?
A: You'll expand your academic knowledge base and learn the highly sought after technical skills needed for working on the complicated systems of today’s yachts, mega-yachts and super-yachts.

Q: What kind of instructors will I have?
A: BCC Marine instructors are Trained Marine Technicians with years of experience; boat-loving people with the right credentials to help you develop the skills needed for working on today’s highly sophisticated yacht, mega-yacht and super-yacht systems.

Q: When do your upcoming classes start?
A: Winter Semester – January 28 to May 4, 2009
    Fall Semester – August 25 to May 8, 2009

Q: How and when do I enroll?
A: You can register anytime. The quickest and easiest way to register is    
     online. For more information, go to How to Apply.

Q: How much does the program cost?
A: $4,800. Many students qualify for scholarships, grants or federal loans.


Career Q&A

Q: What kind of work experience will I receive while in school?
A: Every BCC Marine Engineering Management Program student is required    
    to serve an internship with a local Marine Company, where they will    
    receive additional hands-on experience under the supervision of a Master    
    Technician

Q: Will I be paid while I intern?
A: Yes, we call it “Earn as Your Learn,” you will receive a salary while       
    working and studying.

Q: Can my internship position turn into a full time job?
A: Getting a foot in the door at any Marine Operation is a great way to create    
    an ongoing employment opportunity for yourself if the employer feels         
    you're a good fit.

Q: Will you help find me a job after I receive my degree?
A: Many Marine Companies look to our program for well-trained technicians.          
    With your academic and automotive training, and the major shortage of       
    trained Marine technicians, you can expect to be in high demand. Also, we   
    have partnered with The Marine Industries Association of South Florida   
    (MIASF), who assists our students in finding internships and job  
    opportunities.
  

Financial Aid Q&A

Q: Is financial aid available?
A: Federal student loans, grants and subsidized or unsubsidized funding are available if you are eligible.

Q: What about scholarships?
A: You may qualify for a free or partial scholarship. The costs of your books, uniforms and even tools could be covered or offset.

Q: Who should apply for financial aid?
A: Anyone planning to apply for student or parental loans should file.

Q: What is the process for applying for financial aid?
A: Upon acceptance to the program, you'll receive a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form. Complete the application as soon as you receive it to allow for processing. Either mail it in or, for faster processing, submit your form online.

Q: How will I know if I’m approved for financial aid?
A: Our Financial Aid Department will let you know what aid, if any, you qualify for prior to the start of classes.
