Medical Assisting FAQs

1.  Are there any pre requisites to the program?

 

Yes, the following are the pre requisite courses for the Medical Assisting (MEA) program.

These pre requisites can be taken at any time prior to the start of the program, or finished by the end of the first term of instruction.  In addition, you must pass the TABE test or be exempt.   

 

2. When does the program start?

 

Program classes begin each year in Term I (August)

 

3.  Where and when are classes held?

 

The program and pre-requisite courses are offered at the Central Campus in Davie on different days and at different times. 

 

4. What is the cost of the program?

  • Non-resident tuition $5,957.88
  • In-state resident tuition $1,698.11
  • Lab fees $405.00
  • BCC application fee $35.00
  • Medical Assisting application fee $20.00
  • Background check $70.00                                                                        
  • Drug screening $29.00
  • Accident insurance yearly $9.95

  • Health History Form-payable to student’s provider approx. $250.00

5. Are there any other requirements to obtain work?

 

No.

 

6. Is financial aid available?

7. How long is the program?

 

The Medical Assisting Program is 10 months from August to June.

 

8. Are there part time classes?

 

Classes must be taken sequentially to promote skill building. Each class is offered only once a year and must follow the full time schedule.

 

9. What type of degree will I receive upon graduation?

 

Vocational Certificate in Medical Assisting

 

10. Are there college credits for Medical Assisting?

 

Our program does qualify for college credit towards the Health Services Management (HSM) A.A.S.degree. Please contact the program manager for HSM Ms. Joyce Abraham at 954-201-6904 for further details.

 

11. What is the dress code?

 

The dress code is casual attire on days where uniforms are not required.  Uniforms are required on days when laboratory sessions are scheduled.

 

12. Is there help with learning the material?

 

Students are encouraged to seek the help of the individual instructor if they need assistance. The Learning Resource Center also offers many study aids along with to work with you on an individual basis. We are all here to help you succeed.

 

13. If I must leave the program, will I be able to return?

 

As long as you are in good standing with the college and there are seats available, you may re-enter the program.

 

14. Is there job placement available?

 

The college will assist in your job search, but cannot guarantee employment.  There are many employers who contact the program manager and advertise locally about employment opportunities.

 

15. Are there any professional associations?

 

Yes, we encourage you to become a member of the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA).  You may contact the AAMA at 1-800-228-2262 or at www.aama-ntl.org.
