| About the Profession |
Medical assistants are multi-skilled professionals who work under the direct supervision of a physician. As essential members of the healthcare team, medical assistants must be able to communicate effectively with patients, other healthcare professionals , and the public. Not only must medical assistants be proficient in clinical and administrative skills, but they also must be compassionate, competent, and use problem-solving and critical thinking skills in meeting the needs of their patients. Medical Assistants are employed in a variety of ambulatory health care facilities, including private and hospital owned physician's offices, out-patient clinics, walk-in health care facilities and clinics.
Employment opportunities for medical assistants are abundant. According to the Florida Agency for Workforce Innovation, the medical assisting profession is one of the fastest growing occupations in Florida and Broward County; an average of 186 annual openings are expected in Broward County through the year 2017! |
