Nuclear Medicine
Nuclear medicine is an extremely unique modality as it provides information about the structure and function of nearly every vital organ system in the body. This field utilizes aspects of chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer technology, and applied medicine.
Technologists work directly with patients and physicians in a healthcare setting. Their responsibilities include operating scintillation detectors, preparing and calculating dosages; and administering radionuclides which are used for the singular purpose of diagnosing and treating diseases. There is minimal exposure to both the technologist and patient when performing nuclear medicine procedures.
