SACS COC Accreditation

Welcome to Broward College's SACS COC Reaffirmation of Accreditation website, which has been created to help the college's many stakeholders understand the reaffirmation process as established by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. We hope this website will provide important information as Broward College advances through the reaffirmation process over the course of the next few years.

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools' Commission on Colleges is the recognized regional accrediting authority in the southern region of the United States for institutions of higher education that award associate, baccalaureate, master's or doctoral degrees. SACS COC is charged with the responsibility of carrying out the accreditation and reaffirmation processes for institutions within the southern region of our country.

The reaffirmation of accreditation process consists of two primary components: a Compliance Certification Report and a Quality Enhancement Plan. The Compliance Certification Report uses 77 Core Requirements, Comprehensive Standards and Federal Regulations to focus on the college's compliance. The Quality Enhancement Plan is a course of action for institutional improvement that addresses one or more issues contributing to the enhancement of student learning.

Accreditation is vital to our college's ability to serve our communities and is an important external indicator of the quality of the college's educational foundation, its personnel, classes, programs and services. It is a means of assuring quality and accountability and a comprehensive process in which we objectively and thoroughly review every aspect of this institution's operations and interactions and discuss our plans for future improvement. This exercise is undertaken by extensive teams of faculty, staff and administrators, working together to analyze, assess and improve the college's effectiveness in all areas of operations.

Quality and excellence are important objectives we continually seek at Broward College. We strive for each in all operations of the college daily. The reaffirmation process allows us to display the outstanding work we are doing as an institution and continually seek new ways to better serve student learning.

J. David Armstrong, Jr.
President, Broward College
