Education? Health care? The economy? One of these hot-button topics may lead the discussion when Florida Gov. Charlie Crist will be the featured guest for the September luncheon forum with South Florida Sun-Sentinel’s “Dueling Columnists” Stephen Goldstein and Kingsley Guy. The event will take place Friday, September 26 at the Riverside Hotel’s Himmarshee Room, 620 E. Las Olas Blvd., Fort Lauderdale. The doors open at 11:30 a.m. and the 45-minute program will start at 12:15 p.m. Gov. Crist, Guy and Goldstein will speak, there will be discussions and audience members will be able to ask questions and make comments.
“We’re putting the human touch back into public discourse,” Goldstein said. “This is an opportunity for everybody who wants to participate face-to-face in a truly fair and balanced discussion. We don’t stack the deck and we don’t know who is coming. Anybody can come, and people will have the opportunity to respond.” The September forum is the second in a series that began in June, when Marco Rubio, speaker of the Florida House of Representatives. It will continue in November with former U.S. Congressman E. Clay Shaw. A key feature of the series is audience participation. “An important part of the Dueling Columnists’ idea is to engage the public in debate,” Guy said. “This is a presidential election year; the governor has been very much involved. On a state basis, education is one of the top issues on everybody’s mind, as is the budget issue.” The cost to attend the luncheon forum is $25 and reservations are required. For reservations, call Chelsea Barker at (954) 377-5467.
The Dueling Columnists luncheon forum series is supported by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, Broward College and radio stations 940 WINZ AM and WIOD Newsradio 610. |
