Broward College Baccalaureate Program in Teacher Education
Participation in the program: Students must meet all Teacher Education Program academic and admission requirements prior to acceptance into the program, as specified below. Students may begin the program during any semester following admission. In order to be certified to teach, students must pass all state qualifying exams.
Application deadlines: Applications for BC's Bachelor of Science (BS) Degrees in Education will be accepted only during the Winter and Fall semesters. The deadlines to apply ar October 1st (Winter) and June 1st (Fall).
Application Process
Apply to Broward College
Prospective Broward College students: If you are not currently a BC student, you must apply to Broward College at www.FACTS.org. There is a non-refundable $35 application fee. International Students: Download and complete an international student application at www.broward.edu/future/international/ , current I-20 and other supporting documentation to the International Student Coordinator in the Office of the Registrar. There is a non-refundable $75 application fee.
Broward College graduates/continuing students: Students who graduated from BC but have been absent for two or more major semesters (excluding Summer), must complete a re-entry application. This form is available online at http://www.broward.edu/stuserv/forms/reg-106.pdf. Applications may be submitted in hard copy to any Broward College Admission Office.
Then, Apply to a Baccalaureate Program 1. Download and complete the Teacher Education Program Application. 2. Submit the completed Baccalaureate Application to an Admissions Office at any one of the campus locations indicated on the application. Program requirements must be complete prior to submitting the application. (Program requirements are below). 3. Request that official, complete (no work in progress) college transcripts from other institutions you have attended be sent to:

Baccalaureate Teacher Education Program Admission Requirements
Students must meet all Teacher Education Program admission requirements prior to acceptance into the program, as specified below. AA Degree or 60 credit hours: Completion of an Associate of Arts degree from a regionally-accredited community college or at least 60 transferable college credits (recommended to include 36 hours of general education) from a regionally accredited college or university. Academic requirements: Completion of all General Education Requirements and lower division state-mandated common prerequisites, including the following three common education prerequisites: • EDF 1005 Introduction to the Teaching Profession* • EDG 2701 Introduction to Diversity and Exceptionalities for Educators* • EME 2040 Introduction to Educational Technology* *Students must have earned a grade of “C”, or greater, in these three courses.
Grade point average: A cumulative grade point average of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale in all post-secondary coursework.
Transcripts: Broward College must have on file an official, complete (no work in progress) transcript from each post-secondary institution attended, cumulatively indicating the completion of 60 or more transferable credits by the application entry term. If a student has received credit through examinations, such as (but not exclusively) the College Level Examination Program (CLEP), he/she must provide official exam results. Transfer students with 30 upper division credits completed, or have senior status, will not be eligible for admission. Prior BC students do not need to submit BC transcripts, only transcripts from all other institutions attended.
CLAST requirement: Passing scores or proof of exemption from the College Level Academic Skills Test (CLAST) The CLAST is administered to community college students who are completing Associate of Arts programs and to any other student seeking admission to upper-division programs in Florida state universities, including university students who are completing their sophomore year. The CLAST requirement also applies to students transferring to state universities in Florida from private colleges and universities in Florida and from out-of-state public and private colleges. A passing score on the CLAST test or the General Knowledge Test (GKT) is required by Florida statutes and rules of the State Board of Education in order for a student to receive an Associate of Arts degree and be admitted to upper-division status in the Teacher Education Program. Background check: Most upper division courses require field teaching experience. Students will need to have applied for and successfully passed a background check in accordance with the School Board of Broward County regulations and Florida Legislation to be able to enroll in upper division courses. Clearance procedures are coordinated by the Teacher Education Program at Broward College and may take two months or longer to be processed; therefore, this procedure must be started as soon as possible to ensure timely completion. Additional Requirements:
1. Narrative: Submission of a satisfactory brief narrative that includes a request for admission to the program, factors influencing the applicant’s decision to teach, the applicant’s philosophy of education, and previous teaching or related experiences which demonstrate the applicant’s potential as an educator. 2. Letter of recommendation: One letter of recommendation is required from a person who knows the applicant educationally or professionally. 3. Academic standings: Applicants must be in good academic standing at their last attended institution. 4. Foreign language requirement: Prior to the completion of their junior year, all applicants will be required to provide proof of completion of two years of a modern foreign language in high school, or eight semester credit hours of sequential foreign language (or its equivalent in quarter hours) in college.

Broward College has been approved by the Florida Board of Education and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools: Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) to offer a Bachelor of Science Degree in Teacher Education.
