Broward College’s men’s and women’s basketball teams will open their seasons in November with high hopes for successful seasons and with special celebrations to introduce the teams to the college and community.
On November 4, the women’s basketball team opens with a 7 p.m. game against Palm Beach Atlantic University. The Sailfish should provide a formidable foe for the Seahawks. In March, after a 13-18 record in the regular season, the Sailfish went all the way to the final game of the National Christian College Athletic Association championship in Winona Lake, Indiana, where they fell 50-48 to Mount Vernon Nazarene University. On November 12, the men’s team opens its home season with a game against IMG Basketball Academy, of Bradenton, where some of the nation’s top high school graduates spend a year prepping for Division I college play.
At 6 p.m. before both openers, Broward College athletes will don aprons and grab spatulas and serving spoons and serve the college community at a tailgate party in the grassy area in front of the George E. Mayer Gymnasium on the A. Hugh Adams Central Campus in Davie.
The evening’s activities also includes games and giveaways and the alumni association will have a casual reception for college alumni in the foyer of the athletic department offices. The pregame tailgate parties and games are free for Broward College students, alumni, faculty and staff.
