Broward College’s women’s basketball team saw its first action of the 2009 season, falling 71-38 to St. Thomas University in an exhibition game at the George E. Mayer Gymnasium. The Seahawks, whose roster boasts of two sophomores and 12 freshmen, were led by Frantz Muller, a freshman from Hollywood, who hit a trio of 3-pointers. Sarah Pasetsky, a sophomore from Boca Raton, added eight points.
The Bobcats, with nine upperclassmen on their 17-player roster, were led by sophomore Alexandria Vanderpool, who scored 21 points.
“We’re making progress,” said Seahawks Coach Mike Schawe. “We played a very solid first 10 minutes. Our boxing out was good, our teamwork was good and our level of intensity was good. The turnovers aren’t where we’d like them to be, but clearly we’re getting better.”
The Seahawks return to action on Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. game against the Owens Community College Express, of Toledo, Ohio. On November 12, they stay at home for a 7:30 p.m. exhibition game against the Miami Rain. The Seahawks open Florida Community College Activities Association play against Southern Division foe Indian River State College at home on November 13 at 7 p.m.
