In 1961, Broward College offered a variety of intramural sports including flag football, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, softball, badminton, and archery. On February 21, 1962 Broward College formerly known as "JCBC", was approved to enter the Florida Junior College Athletic Conference. The JCBC Seahorses competed in Baseball, Basketball, Swimming, Tennis, Track, and Golf. Prior to 1966, all events were held at Stranahan High School. In 1964, the first on campus intercollegiate sport was Women's Tennis. In there inaugural season the Lady Seahorses coached by Elaine Gavigan upset the Univeristy of Miami 5-2.
