Hire Interns at BC

Can students participate in an internship here at Broward College? Absolutely! Students have completed internships with Economic Development, Public Relations, and Grants Development. Offering BC students an internship opportunity within your department provides convenience and flexibility for our students. Here’s how you can participate:

Option 1:
  1. If a BC student has been identified, the departmental supervisor simply provides the student with an offer letter which includes a detailed description of the internship duties and responsibilities on BC letterhead.
  2. The student signs up for a mandatory internship orientation session and presents his/her offer letter to a career center coordinator.
    • Internship orientation dates are posted at www.broward.edu/ccn.
    • The career center coordinator contacts the Internship EDGE office to register the student for the course and assign a faculty internship advisor.
    • The faculty internship advisor works with the student and the departmental supervisor to ensure the student is learning and completing tasks related to their career goals throughout the internship experience.
Option 2:
  1. If a BC student has not been identified, the departmental supervisor registers as an employer on the College’s online job board, www.broward.edu/ccn, and uploads a detailed job description with internship duties and responsibilities.
  2. The Internship EDGE office promotes the internship opportunity to students. Please note: internship placements are not guaranteed.
  3. Interested students contact the department to set up an interview with the supervisor.
  4. If the student is chosen for the internship opportunity, the departmental supervisor provides the student with an offer letter which includes a detailed description of the internship duties and responsibilities on BC letterhead.
  5. The student signs up for a mandatory internship orientation session and presents his/her offer letter to a career center coordinator.

Here’s what our colleagues are saying about their Internship EDGE experience with BC students:

Angela Nicoletti, Media Relations Department, Broward College
“In preparation for the 2014 Florida Gubernatorial Debate, the Media Relations department required an extra pair of hands. We were fortunate enough to work with the Internship EDGE program to secure a Broward College student to assist us with needs leading up to, during and following the debate. During her time as an intern, Paola, not only had the special opportunity to work on a political debate, but she also staffed a live taping of NBC 6’s College Week Live and worked on several other important media relations projects. She was such a hardworking, dedicated part of our team that we definitely didn’t want to lose her, and now, she is a part-time assistant for the department.”

Ellyn Drotzer, AVP, Resource & Strategic Planning
“Working with our students is both refreshing and informational. We learn as much from them as they do from us. Sharing knowledge propels us to take a critical look at what we do and how we do it, which in turn helps us become better at our jobs.”
