The most successful Peer Leaders are members who possess the following qualities:

• Academic Preparation: Potential Peer Leaders are students that will be enrolling for the upcoming year or recently graduated from BC and have demonstrated academic persistence, or are familiar with the Broward College student needs, services, and challenges.
• Social Capital: Potential Peer Leaders are influential among their peers and have the capacity to work well with others.
• Personal Leadership Potential: Potential Peer Leaders have demonstrated the capacity for leadership and have personal tenacity or grit.
• Capacity to Create Change: Potential Peer Leaders are positioned to make the most change in their community.

• At a minimum, candidates must be a current Broward College students in good academic standing (2.0 GPA or higher) who completed a minimum of 12 credits (full-time) or 6 credits (part-time) or recent alumni. Exceptions will be considered on a case-to-case basis.  
• Candidates must be at least 18 years old at the time on onboarding.  
• Candidates must pass a National Criminal History Background check (NSCHC), including a drug screen, an FBI background check via fingerprints, a local background check, and their name run through the National Sex Offender database (www.nsopw.gov).  This is contingent on any candidates selected to start their service year. 
• Candidates must be able to successfully complete Broward College and AmeriCorps’ onboarding requirements, including successfully completing their I-9 verification prior to their first day of service. 
• Candidates must be a citizen, national, or lawful permanent resident of the United States. 
• The Program branded uniform or Service Gear provided must always be worn during service per the uniform policy. 
• Candidates will serve under the supervision of the Program Coordinators, Program Director, Program Associate, and Site Supervisor(s) designated at college campuses or service sites. 
• Candidates may not hold a full-time or part-time regular position at Broward College.  
• Candidates must be able to successfully participate in the application, interview and onboarding processes. 

The Peer Mentoring program has over 50 paid part-time AmeriCorps positions available every year for eligible candidates. These student peer mentorship positions are called "Peer Leaders". Peer Leaders are also AmeriCorps members.

Peer Leaders (mentors) serve on the three main Broward College campuses: North Campus (Coconut Creek), Central Campus (Davie), and South Campus (Pembroke Pines). The positions require candidates to serve 100% on campus and in person.

These AmeriCorps positions start in the Fall Semester (September)  and require a 1-year commitment until July 31 in the Summer.

Additional Position Expectations:

• Attend a mandatory 2 or 3 day Fall Orientation and training and a Spring Training
• Complete the minimum position hours requirement by July 31
• Hold regular Peer Mentoring sessions in person and virtually
• Submit all reporting and grant required documents by program deadlines
• Meet program Volunteerism requirements
• Support all program activities, events, and partnerships
• Work in a TEAM and actively collaborate with peers and program staff to achieve program goals
• Be able to commit to 1 year of service (Fall until Summer)
• Have or be willing to develop excellent communication and leadership skills
• Be accountable to position duties, code of conduct, and tasks
• Attend and actively participate in monthly team meetings
• Have excellent customer service skills
• Be Willing to model student success
• Be a " Peer Leader" able to model student success
• Be an active participant ready to serve, share resources and grow professionally
• Be willing to learn and engage in a dynamic environment
• Be able to complete program mandatory trainings by established deadlines
• Complete other duties as assigned
