Frequently Asked Questions
Question:How long does it take to have my transcripts evaluated?
Your transcript will be evaluated during your first enrolled term at Broward College. If your courses were taken more than ten years ago, we may need to contact your previous institution for course information to determine equivalencies. This may delay your evaluation. We will let you know if this is the case. Your evaluation will be complete when all transcripts are received, evaluated and posted to your Broward College transcript. Final and complete transcripts for currently enrolled students, received by the priority application deadline, will be evaluated prior to the start of the term or session.
Question:
Are all courses/grades transferrable?
The students entire transfer record from all previous institutions will be posted on the transcript and reflected in the transfer GPA. A student's cumulative grade point average will reflect only course work completed at Broward College. Courses taken in the student's program of study at Broward will be reflected in the program grade point average.
Question:
What if my courses were taken many years ago?
All courses will transfer regardless of when they were taken. Some college courses completed more than 10 years ago may require validation by examination. Your Academic Advisor will be able to tell you which courses need validation depending on your major.
Question:
What if my courses were taken at a foreign institution?
Courses taken at foreign institutions that are accredited will transfer to Broward College. An official transcript is required. Transcripts in other languages other than English must be translated by a certified translator. A course by course Commercial Evaluation with upper-level course identification is needed for all foreign transcripts.
Question:
Can I receive credit for military experience?
Broward College will grant credit for evaluated military education that has been recommended as appropriate for post-secondary credit by the American Council on Education's Guide to the Evaluation of Educational Experience in the Armed Services. Students need to contact their Academic Advisor to initiate the request. Students can only transfer courses that can be used towards their major.
Question:
Will I receive credits from all of my previous institution?
All courses from regionally accredited institutions or national accrediting agencies recognized by the United States Department of Education will be accepted. Some courses are also accepted from non-regionally accredited institutions participating in the Florida Common Course Numbering System.
Question:
Will I get credit for my AP/CLEP exams?
College credit may be awarded for prior learning opportunities and/or acceptable scores through Advanced Placement (AP), College Level Examination Program (CLEP), DANTES, or International Baccalaureate (IB). Students may not receive credit by examination for courses in areas where they have received college credit for equal courses or more advanced work. Credits for prior learning may not be applied toward grade forgiveness.
Question:
How will I know when my evaluation is complete?
Once your Evaluation is complete and posted, you can view your transcript with all courses accepted online. All students can log into their myBC, Broward College account to view their transcript. Logon with your Student I.D. # or social security number in the student I.D. box and enter your PIN (the month and year you were born)
Question:
How many credits will I be able to transfer?
All credits earned at another institution will be transferred if you do not have a degree. If you have a degree, only those courses applicable to your current major at Broward College will transfer. Please consult your Academic Advisor to find out what courses will be accepted towards your degree.
Question:
What if I have a question about my evaluation?
If you have questions about your Evaluations, please contact your Academic Advisor. If there is an error, we will work with your Advisor to correct the problem as quickly as possible.
