Learn about VA and other educational benefits

The Department of Veteran Affairs website provides valuable information regarding all chapters of the GI Bill® as well as other VA educational benefits.

Know what benefits you may be eligible for:
Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33)
Veterans' Educational Assistance Program (REAP) (Chapter 1607)
Montgomery GI Bill® Active Duty (Chapter 30)
Survivors' and Dependents' Educational Assistance Program (Chapter 35)
Montgomery GI Bill® Selected Reserve (Chapter 1606)
Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (Chapter 31)

How do I apply for benefits

If a veteran is planning to utilize VA benefits while attending school, you must apply online through the Department of Veteran Affairs.

Apply for financial aid

Veterans are encouraged to apply for financial aid in addition to using their GI Bill®.  The requirements for VA benefits and financial aid differ, and can be used at the same time while enrolled.

VA Award and Coverage of Tuition and Fees

The Veteran Services Department provides a VA Award for coverage once the VA benefit type is identified.  Those eligible for the Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33) will see an award in myBC based on your percentage of eligibility.  All other VA benefit chapters, such as Chapter 30, Chapter 35, and Chapter 1606 are eligible to extend their tuition due date on a case-by-case basis.  If you need a tuition deferment, please e-mail Veteran Service at veterans@broward.edu

All tuition and fees are reported to the VA using a web-based system.  This is processed after the add and drop period of the term and/or sessions within the term you are registered for.

For Post 9/11 GI Bill® (Chapter 33) students and VA Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (Chapter 31) students, our tuition policy complies with 38 USC 3679(e), which means Post 9/11 and Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment students will not be charged or otherwise penalized due to a delay in VA tuition and fee payments.  For eligibility consideration, a Post 9/11 GI Bill® student must submit a VA Certificate of Eligibility (COE) and a Vocational Rehabilitation Student must provide a VAF 28-1905 form.
