Dr. John Wensveen serves as Provost and Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs and College Operations at Broward College, where he is the institution’s chief academic officer. He provides strategic leadership for academic affairs, academic operations, accreditation, student success, online learning, institutional effectiveness, and college-wide initiatives that advance academic excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement across a large, multi-campus institution.
A transformational higher education leader with more than 25 years of executive experience, John previously served as President of the International Space University (ISU) in Strasbourg, France, where he led the world’s premier institution dedicated to space education, research, innovation, and international collaboration. Prior to ISU, he served as Chief Innovation Officer at Nova Southeastern University, leading a multimillion-dollar innovation ecosystem that attracted entrepreneurs, emerging technologies, strategic partnerships, and significant external investment.
John’s academic leadership experience also includes service as Vice Provost at Miami Dade College, Professor and Head of the School of Aviation and Transportation Technology at Purdue University, and Dean of Aviation at Dowling College. Throughout his career, he has championed academic excellence, student success, accreditation, institutional effectiveness, strategic planning, and innovation while fostering collaborative engagement with faculty, academic leaders, staff, students, and external stakeholders in complex and multi-campus environments.
In addition to his higher education leadership roles, John has held executive positions in the aviation and aerospace industries, bringing a unique perspective on organizational transformation, technology adoption, strategic growth, workforce development, and industry partnerships. He is a TEDx speaker, media contributor, and author of two leading industry books, including the best-selling Air Transportation: A Global Management Perspective.
John holds a Ph.D. and master’s degrees from Cardiff University in the United Kingdom and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Victoria in Canada.
