Vice President of Workforce Education and Innovation

Kareen Torres is the Vice President of Workforce Education and Innovation. She oversees Adult and Community Education, Career and Technical Education support services, Workforce Education Enrollment, and Special Projects, as well as a $30 million Promise Neighborhoods, a grant program that provides services from cradle to career using a two-generation approach in Broward UP™ communities.

Ms. Torres joined Broward College in 2014 and has served as the Associate Vice President of Resource Development and Sponsored Programs bringing in over $200 million dollars in new external grant funding to the college to support student success. She has been instrumental in designing new and innovative workforce education and academic programs, including apprenticeships, continuing education to credit articulation, micro-credentialing, job placement strategies, adult education and integrated education programs, cradle to career pipeline and many more. Prior to College, she served 15 years in leadership roles in Broward County Public Schools, overseeing grants development and managing the $34 million Race to the Top grant program, which supported low-performing schools and district improvement initiatives. She has also served in various roles for several non-profit organizations throughout South Florida.

Ms. Torres earned her Associate of Arts from Miami-Dade College, her Bachelor's in Business Administration, and a Master's in Public Administration from Florida International University. She is currently in the Doctorate program in Higher Education Leadership at Nova Southeastern University. She also holds a Certificate in Adult Teaching from the Academy for the Art of Teaching at Florida International University and is a Certified Grants Professional.
