Broward College is committed to its mission of transforming students' lives and enriching our diverse community through academic excellence, innovation, and meaningful career opportunities. Our history is filled with graduates who have made the most of their educational experience in various career fields as well as numerous state and national honors that are a testimonial of how we have fulfilled this mission. Our aspirations, however, remain squarely in the future. As we enter a new era of learning - one defined by connectivity, technological innovation, inclusion, and workforce readiness - our institution must redefine the kind of transformation that is possible for our students, faculty, staff, and community. That is why we are proud to announce a new strategic vision that builds upon successful efforts toward a more inclusive economy, creating an even more meaningful social and economic impact. This vision is captured in the new Broward College Social Enterprise Plan.
The Social Enterprise Plan is driven by a singular guiding principle: Lifting the entire Broward County community through higher education access and outcomes. Through this plan, Broward College aspires to lift the entire Broward County community leading to expanded geographic and economic inclusivity, and new levels of post-secondary education attainment and economic mobility.
Importantly, the name emphasizes the tangible social value of Broward College by engaging every area of the enterprise, along with our community to achieve our aspirational goals. The development of the plan included more than 50 input sessions with more than 500 internal and external stakeholders including faculty, staff, trustees, students, and education, employer, municipal and non-profit partners. These input sessions served as the foundation for the creation of our strategic "Big Bets" framework.
The Social Enterprise Plan, with ambitions that far outpace traditional limitations of time and resources, is designed to be fluid and responsive to the needs of our community. In short, the Social Enterprise Plan represents unlimited aspiration.
The Social Enterprise Plan is structured around three "Big Bets" designed to Guarantee Access to Higher Education, Empower Student Development, and Create Impactful Career Connections. Through these "Big Bets" and with ambitions that far outpace traditional limitations of time and resources, we will continue to fulfill the critical mission of transforming our students' lives and enriching our diverse community. Learn more about our Social Enterprise Plan "Big Bets" below.
Our goal is to develop individuals and strengthen communities through expanded access to higher learning and resources across the county.
Accelerate Entry into the College
Purpose: Expand a variety of acceleration options for all types of potential Broward College students.
Broward College is dedicated to ensuring access not only to those who can get to us but to those who for one reason or another cannot. The College will expand outreach and recruitment programs such as Jumpstart and Bridge2Life, increase enrollment using its expanded business model Broward UP™, and add new programs designed to assist specific groups. Through this tactic, our goal is to put students on the fast track to success by expanding a variety of acceleration options for all types of potential Broward College students.
Lift Every City
Purpose: Enhance the economic mobility of Broward County residents by expanding access to Broward College programs and resources through partnerships and jointly assessed community-wide strategic points of collaboration.
Everyone in our community deserves access to higher education. By implementing community-focused learning models, such as Broward UP, we will continue to deepen relationships with local municipalities through specialized outreach and the power of proximity. Broward UP is one such example, bringing workforce education to ZIP codes with the highest rates of unemployment and lowest post-secondary education attainment. To expand on this strategy, the College will enhance the economic mobility of Broward County residents by expanding access to Broward College programs and resources through partnerships and jointly assessed community-wide strategic points of collaboration.
Expand Multilingual Support
Purpose: Reduce barriers to entry and completion for prospective and existing students, thereby responding to changing demographic needs of our community and increasing access to higher education.
Improved access also includes the continued expansion of multilingual outreach and services in an effort to increase enrollment for continuing education and degree-seeking English language learners. No one should be excluded from a quality post-secondary education. That is why we have taken it upon ourselves to reduce barriers to entry and completion for prospective and existing students, responding to the changing demographic needs of our community and increasing access to higher education for all who wish to pursue it.
Overcome the Digital Divide
Purpose: Leverage technology to drive engaging learning experiences, develop digital literacy competencies for learners across different communities, and expand access to the digital economy and virtual services.
After assessing student technology needs as part of the Social Enterprise Plan, the College is committed to expanding and increasing its laptop loaner and mobile hotspot programs for all students. As part of this tactic, we will increase the number of Streaming and Learning (SNL) classrooms and create more flexible collaborative spaces across campuses, incorporating additional digital literacy competencies in our general education program, and overcoming technological disparity as an obstacle to education. We want to inspire the next generation of technology and business professionals by leveraging technology to drive engaging learning experiences. Under the Social Enterprise Plan, we will develop digital literacy competencies for learners across different communities and expand access to the digital economy and virtual services.

Develop Sustainable Financial Independence
Purpose: Build relevant financial competencies in each participating Broward College and Broward UP student and community member.
Among our chief aspirations is building financial literacy competencies across all learning pathways. We are committed to this goal by facilitating workshops with financial services partners and local financial enterprises to engage students in extra-curricular learning, as well as establishing a starter investment program supported by community investor mentors. Broward College students should feel confident knowing that they are equipped with a financial wellness toolkit designed to build resilient and financially savvy students. After all, post-secondary education is about building well-rounded community members. That is why the goal of this tactic is to instill relevant competencies in each participating Broward College student.
Customize Learning Experiences through Multiple Modalities
Purpose: Expand course and program offerings through the use of technology and innovative approaches to meet students' learning needs.
The COVID-19 pandemic showed us the importance of empowering our students to learn through multiple modalities. As part of the Social Enterprise Plan, we will expand modality options for students to include in-person, remote, and hybrid coursework and examinations. We will also work to increase accelerated study options for students and expand course and program offerings through the use of technology and innovative teaching approaches. Broward College is here to meet the learning needs of our students.
Provide a Best-in-Class Student Experience
Purpose: Examine all points in the student journey and plan for even the most aspirational enhancements to our outreach, processes, services, and programs while monitoring student sentiment and continually responding to our students' needs.
Under the Social Enterprise Plan, the student experience is paramount. We will solve process gaps in the student experience and ensure continuous improvement. By leveraging what is working, such as peer mentoring programs, and exploring enhancements such as a single-point-of-contact advising model, we can strengthen our retention and ensure an optimal environment for students to complete their studies. The purpose of this tactic is holistic. We will examine all points in the student journey and plan for even the most aspirational enhancements to our outreach, processes, services, and programs while monitoring student sentiment and continually responding to our students' needs.

Advance Market-Driven Curriculum
Purpose: Ensure that curriculum offerings meet the current needs of both students and employers.
Under the Social Enterprise Plan, our curriculum will help foster efficient and expedient placement in the workplace. We will ensure the efficacy of our program content and course sequencing as we scale work experience and internships for students in our programs. We will also move toward offering program "packages" to meet workforce requirements based on the most in-demand jobs while increasing project-based learning opportunities between faculty and students. Broward College is about learning in the now. We will ensure that curriculum offerings meet the current needs of both students and employers.
Answer the Call for Health Care Professionals
Purpose: Address community healthcare needs by preparing students for work in community healthcare organizations.
The past two years have made it clear that there is a critical need for healthcare professionals. As part of the Social Enterprise Plan, Broward College will answer that call. We will address community healthcare needs by preparing students for work in community healthcare organizations. The plan seeks to create a Health Sciences Academy and offer pre-requisite support for students in the Health Sciences Pathway.
Actualize Employment
Purpose: Provide life-changing career paths for students through meaningful employment for career growth while meeting the needs of our local economy.
We know that career placement is of utmost importance to our students. That is why, under the Social Enterprise Plan, we will remain dedicated to actualizing employment. We are capable of providing life-changing career paths for students through meaningful employment for career growth while meeting the needs of our local economy, and to do so, we will engage employers aligned with individual pathways at each student milestone. At Broward College, we will orient student life experiences around meaningful career connections, in part because we strive to guarantee job placement for Broward College graduates.
