In order to renew your scholarship for the following academic year, students must meet all of the renewal requirements (PDF) at the end of the Spring semester.
If a student is not meeting the renewal requirements set fourth by the Florida Department of Education, the student can appeal to the state or the institution, depending on what requirement is not met. Broward College’s appeal policy mirrors the state’s policy, as students have 30 days from the date the state deemed the student ineligible and the student was notified. Any appeals submitted after the 30 days will not be considered.

If you receive a “Change of Grade” for the Fall or Spring semester, please send an email to state@broward.edu
Students who drop and/or withdraw after the add/drop period will have their award reduced and be responsible for reimbursing the college for the cost of the course(s) unless an exception was granted by the institution You will not be eligible for Bright Futures renewal or state funding for the next academic year until student repays the obligation. Students will be reported as dropped or withdrawn and be sent a letter notifying them of their obligation. Once the obligation is paid, the information will be reported to Bright Futures.
Reinstatement applies to eligible students who did not receive funding during the previous academic year and would now like to apply for scholarship funding. Learn more about Bright Futures Reinstatement (PDF).
Under limited circumstances, a student may apply for a one-time restoration if he/she did not meet the GPA requirement to renew their Bright Futures within the first year of funding. This restoration may also be used to regain a FAS award if a student’s GPA dropped to the FMS award level. Restoration requirements vary depending on the year that the student graduated from high school. Learn more about Bright Futures restoration (PDF).
