Program Overview

The Virtual Internships Program at Broward College offers Computer Science and Information Technology students remote, project-based learning experiences through the Virtual Internships platform. This initiative bridges academic learning with real-world application, providing students with flexible opportunities to gain industry experience and develop professional skills.

  • Facilitate hands-on experience in students' fields of study.
  • Enhance career readiness by developing both technical and soft skills.
  • Support students in building a professional portfolio and expanding their network.
  • Students may earn three (3) credits, if their program allows, through Broward College's Internship EDGE Program.

  • You are currently enrolled as a Broward College student.
  • You have a 2.0 or higher GPA.
  • You are enrolled in one of the designated degree programs and have completed the gateway course aligned with that program, with a grade of "C" or higher.

  • Fully remote internships facilitated through the Virtual Internships platform
  • Duration: Typically, 12 weeks, with flexible scheduling based on project requirements and student availability
  • Time Commitment: As agreed upon by the host company and intern
  • With Internship EDGE Program - 144 hours required

  • Students may also be eligible to earn three (3) credits for their internship program through the Internship EDGE Program.
  • Engage in project-based assignments provided by host companies.
  • Participate in virtual meetings and collaborative activities.
  • Maintain regular communication with mentors and coordinators.
  • Adhere to professional standards, including confidentiality and ethical behavior.

To complete the program, students must fulfill 144 work hours and complete all course assignments.

  • Access to the Virtual Internship's CareerBridge professional development curriculum, featuring courses on soft skills and professional competencies.
  • Assigned Internship Coach offering one-to-one coaching sessions.
  • Participation in live webinars with industry experts and weekly discussions with fellow interns and experience managers.
  • Development of a Global Career Management Plan and access to an alumni network for ongoing support.

  1. Students complete the Interest Form. Broward College Employment Solutions will reach out to assist with the process.
  2. Once selected by Broward College to continue with the next step, students will continue with the Virtual Internships application process, using their student (@mail.broward.edu) email address.
  3. Students complete their online application form, confirming course eligibility and providing relevant background information.
  4. Selection is based on course completion, application quality, and availability.
  5. Selected students may be invited for a brief virtual interview with Virtual Internships. Once matched, students will also interview with a potential internship partner company.
  6. Once selected by an internship partner company, you will receive an offer letter. Use this to apply for course credit, if applicable, through Broward College's Internship EDGE Program.

  • Students may be matched with external partners who have signed collaboration agreements.
  • Partners commit to mentoring interns, assigning meaningful work, and providing feedback.

Interns must adhere to the Student Code of Conduct (PDF) and relevant policies.

  • Student progress, participation, and feedback are documented using the Virtual Internships platform's analytics tools.
  • Outcomes are reported for grant compliance and continuous improvement.

Upon successful completion, students receive a digital badge or certificate of participation, along with an end-of-program report.
