The Florida Legislature wants to ensure graduates of the Florida College System and State University System have sufficient knowledge of America's civics, particularly the principles reflected in the United States Constitution. Lawmakers modified the existing Civic Literacy Graduation Requirement in fall 2021 and it now impacts many more students.

According to Florida State Rule 6A-10.02413, prior to the award of an associate in arts (AA) or baccalaureate degree (BAS, BS, BSN), students initially entering a Florida College System institution in the 2021-22 school year, and thereafter, must demonstrate competency in civic literacy by successfully completing a specified course and an assessment prior to graduation. Several course options are available for students to meet this requirement. Several testing options are available to students to meet this requirement; however, only two testing option can be taken locally in a Campus Testing and Assessment Center.
Students in an AA, BAS, BS, or BSN program under catalog year 2021-2022 and beyond regardless of when they began their program at the College, previous degree level attained, or credits earned through dual enrollment.

*AICE, AP, and IB are only offered during high school to students in specific courses. AICE, AP, and IB are not available at Broward College or for students at the postsecondary level.

According to Florida State Rule 6A-10.02413, students initially entering a Florida College System (FCS) institution or state university in the 2018-2019 to 2020-2021 school year seeking an associate of arts (AA) or baccalaureate degree must demonstrate competency in civic literacy by successfully completing a specified course or examination. Several course options are available for students to meet this requirement. Several testing options are available to students to meet this requirement; however, only one testing option can be taken locally in a Campus Testing and Assessment Center.
