The Building Construction Technology program emphasizes hands-on, real-world applications of construction management methods. Your training will be focused on the latest
state-of-the-art techniques as well as the fundamentals. Students in this program develop skills and gain knowledge that prepares them for licensure.
Our various offerings will equip you with the specialized skills needed for immediate employment or job advancement in this industry. This program will accommodate construction workers, estimators, supervisors, as well as those who are just entering the field of construction. The student who meets all educational and institutional requirements for an Associate of Science Degree in Building Construction Technology from Broward College is eligible to have their degree counted towards meeting part of the eligibility requirements for the Florida Contractor’s License exam.
Established in 1991, the Building Construction Technology program emphasizes hands-on, real-world applications of construction management methods. Your training will include software skills for estimating, scheduling, drafting, accounting, and code compliance. Our safety training includes hands-on training on safety gear in simulated work environments. Students gain foundational experience in the use of surveying gear as well as basic construction tools. Plan reading courses include assignments using plans suited for the Florida market. Assignments reflect real-world application of knowledge.

Broward College has an excellent reputation for educating highly qualified construction specialists. Job growth nationwide for construction managers is expected to rise on average 8% from 2021 to 2031 according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

Our programs are stackable adding skills along the way to help you qualify for new job opportunities. You can start with a Certificate, progress to an Associate of Science, or even a Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management, all here at Broward College.
Note: The Certificate courses are also part of the Associate of Science in Building Construction Technology. You can enroll directly in the Associate program without needing to enroll in the Certificate.
All full-time and adjunct professors are active in the construction and/or the Architectural/Engineering industry. Many are licensed contractors and/or hold Master of Science degrees in Construction Management.
Broward College's experienced faculty and local industry leaders such as the Stiles Corporation, the Pirtle Construction Company, and many others have collaborated to develop a curriculum that addresses the construction industry's specific needs in Broward and South Florida. The relationship between our active professors and industry leaders produces graduates with relevant training and provides employers with capable employees.
Building Construction Technology courses focus on construction management skills and the Associates Degree in Building Construction Technology (program 2184) counts towards the eligibility requirements of the Florida Contractor's License exam.
This 60-credit program generally takes two years to complete if you enroll as a full-time student. Our 18-credit certificate provides basic knowledge needed for employment in the industry and its courses count towards the A.S. degree program.
Transfer students should contact a program advisor to confirm credit for prior coursework.
Students with verifiable construction industry experience may participate in our Prior Learning Assessment Program to receive college credits for work experience. Students can demonstrate proficiency in specific courses using a combination of work experience and passing an examination. Learn more at our Credit for Prior Learning page.
Are you a welder, electrician, carpenter, or a member of another building construction trade? Congratulations! You have succeeded in completing your trade apprenticeship and are now reaping the benefits of your hard work. Did you know that your apprenticeship opens the door to an Associate's and even a Bachelor's degree at Broward College?
Students who have completed a construction industry apprenticeship registered with the Florida Department of Education and included on our approved list (most are) are eligible to receive free credits at Broward College!
Qualifying students receive 27 credits towards the Applied Technology Management Associate of Science Degree Program, which means you are almost halfway done with an Associate's degree from day one! This program can help you qualify for management and supervisory jobs in your trade.
You have the option of following it up with a Bachelor of Applied Science in Supervision and Management where you can learn valuable business skills for running a specialty contracting company.

Degrees and individual courses are available. Some courses are taught fully online and others in person. In-person classes start at 6 pm at the Willis Holcombe Center in Downtown Fort Lauderdale.

The Dual Enrollment Program at Broward College is an accelerated program that allows eligible public/charter, private, and home school secondary students to take postsecondary coursework and simultaneously earn both high school and college credits, saving both time and money.
