Program Admission Tests

Broward College Testing and Assessment Centers offer various tests to support admission to our Health Sciences programs.

HESI A2

The HESI (Health Education Systems, Inc.) A2 (Admission Assessment) exam evaluates the aptitude of prospective students in key areas such as English, math, and science. At Broward College (BC), the HESI A2 is used for admission into the Nursing programs as well as the Dental Assisting program. The HESI A2 administered at BC includes only test sections required for BC programs. Additional test sections are not available.

Before Test Day Remember to:

  • Create an Evolve account at evolve.elsevier.com. You will receive an email containing your username and password.
  • Follow the instructions above on Availability to pay fees and schedule an appointment to test either remotely or in person.
  • Review Testing Requirements and Guidelines
  • View the HESI A2 exam Tutorial prior to test day!
    • You may start with any section you choose.
    • The timer will count down, from the amount of time allowed to complete your exam.
    • Be sure to keep track of your time using the timer.
    • There is a calculator available inside the test platform for student use during the Basic Math Skills section. It can be viewed by clicking on the link “Show Calculator”.
    • There is no going back to a question or a section once it is submitted/completed.
    • There are two personal assessment sections that are optional to complete.
    • You will be given scratch paper and a pencil. You must return or tear up the scratch paper and pencil before leaving the room or remote testing session.

On Test Day Remember to:

  • Have your current, valid, physical government-issued photo ID
  • Have your Evolve username and password
  • Logon or Arrive early to your exam appointment

After Testing Concludes:

Exam Results will be available in your Evolve account once your test is completed.

Retesting Policy

Policy Update Effective June 28, 2022:

Policy:

  • No limit on the number of test attempts per year
  • No waiting period between test attempts
    • Remediation between test attempts is strongly recommended

Remote Testing and Assessment Center

  • Schedule your Remote HESI A2 exam through ProctorU now
  • New ProctorU and Elsevier Exam Day Updates Beginning September 6, 2022:
    • Clean Desk Policy: 
      • All desks must be completely cleared off and free from any books, notes, drinks, snacks, etc. 
    • Valid Government Issues Photo ID: 
      • All test-takers, regardless of exam type and service line, will be required to present a valid Government Issued Photo ID at the time of their exam. 
    • Online Calculator Only: 
      • No graphing, scientific, or other handheld calculators are allowed during the exam. The HESI platform has a built-in calculator that can be used. 
    • White Boards Only: 
      • Scratch paper will no longer be allowed. Students must use a white board or a 1 sheer of paper inside a transparency sleeve used with a dry erase marker that is to be erased at the end of the exam prior to disconnecting from ProctorU’s platform. 
    • No Headphones:
      • No headphones/earplugs are to be allowed unless an accommodation is listed for the test taker prior to the test taker's scheduled appointment.

Due to the need for video review of each remote tesing session, score entry for all remote tests will take a minimum of 3 business days. 

NFSI

The National Firefighter Selection Inventory (NFSI) is used to select qualified individuals for Emergency Medical Services programs at Broward College. The NFSI combines a comprehensive cognitive ability measure with a measure of behavioral orientation (a personality-type measure). The exam is used widely in the EMS training field.

  • 3 Attempts within a 6 Month period.
