DSST Military Benefits

The DSST offers military personnel (both active duty and veterans) the opportunity to earn college credit for what you already know by taking any of the over 30 introductory-level college subject exams*. Because the exams are funded by the United States government through the Defense Activity for Non Traditional Education Support (DANTES), you could save hundreds or even thousands of dollars towards your degree.

We are now Fully-Funded and More!

  • All Broward College students who are active duty or veterans will have the DSST proctoring fee waived for ALL test attempts!
    • Active duty students must show their military ID at the time of check-in.
    • Veterans must have their VA advisor submit an online referral form prior to check-in at the Testing Center.
      • BC VA Advisors - Click Here to submit a referral form.
    • Current enrollment is not required. Student must be currently enrolled or have taken classes in the past at BC.
  • Non-Broward College active duty examinees who are eligible first time military exam candidates will not only have their exam fee funded by DANTES, but will also have their proctoring fee waived at the Testing Center.
    • Non-Broward College veterans may be eligible for reimbursement from the VA. See below for more details.

  • Military personnel, spouses and civilian employees of Air Force, Air Force Reserve, Army Reserve, Coast Guard (active and reserve); may be eligible for DANTES-Funded DSST Exams.
  • Spouses of: Coast Guard (active and reserve)

DANTES does not pay the exam fee for a previously funded DSST exam. If military test takers want to retake an exam previously funded by DANTES, they need to wait 30 days and pay the $85* exam fee.

The GI Bill offers reimbursement for veterans who take eligible tests, including DSST. This means that eligible veterans may schedule a test with a BC Testing Center, pay the DSST exam fee and proctoring fee, take the desired test available, and request reimbursement from the VA. For more information please visit the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs website.

*Visit the Broward College DSST Equivalency webpage for specific details on which examinations the College accepts as well as the specified credit equivalencies.
